Descripción


Overcast is a KOTH map set on a small island in the frozen arctic, where RED runs a mining operation, and BLU runs a dockyard on the opposite side of the island. The point of contention is the base of the lighthouse and the area around it.



DEVELOPMENT
This map has been in development for several years by a small team of three, and is now on the steam workshop for the first time!

The map's core layout has been created and balanced around competitive play, after which it has been optimised and tweaked for casual with every class in mind.

Every inch of the layout has been heavily scrutinized by competitive players and casual players alike, with over 100 hours of playtesting and refinement.

We hope to deliver a classic Team Fortress 2 experience on this King of the Hill map which incentivises teamfights while still allowing players to flank if they so choose.



LAYOUT
The map is made up by spawn, and spawn area, a lobby with three entrances and four exists, a yard outside of lobby and three routes: "valley", "main" and "cliff", that funnel players towards the middle point.




GAMEPLAY AND FLOW
Most fights take place around the control point, with edging the point being the main focus because of the short capture time.

This leads to a consistent back and forwards between teams.

Players are encouraged to group up and play together as a team, but with the flank routes there is also opportunity to either sneak behind or flank straight into the enemy for a surprise attack.

Having different ways to play the map was found popular in playtesting because players of all different playstyles were able to find strategies that suited them.



VISUALS and LIGHTING
The map has been highly detailed, but cleverly so, to prevent impacting performance. Weighing graphical fidelity and performance is of great importance, as many new maps are highly detailed, but unfortunately run poorly on older systems.

The map has an almost cinematic vibe to it, with expressive lighting to enhance the atmosphere of the map, while great care is taken to make sure player readibility is kept as clear as any standard valve map.

It is a set on a bleak island being pelted with snow, during the night, this creates interesting and unique visuals.

Many custom assets have been specifically crafted for this map and its unique atmosphere...

I believe the brightness is probably an issue on your end as the maps brightness is fine for most other people. Maybe try turning it up in the settings.

The performance is an issue we are aware of.

The space between mid and spawn is ordinary, if not shorter than some other maps like highpass. Time yourself going from spawn to the midpoint and compare it to other maps.

I don't understand how the map encourages sentry turtling? Every sentry spot that covers point is exposed to a sightline that is easily spammable. And its koth, so if you turtle in random places like lobby, you have 0 impact.

I don't care about the AI, I don't care about using other assets or any of that other drama. I don't care about taking the side of the emporium or taking a stance against them. All that being said this is one of the few koth maps I will go out of my way to leave the server over if it's next up. You can't see shit, it drops your performance to nothing, there's so much space between spawn and mid and once you get there its just a huge box with a tower in the middle. I guess the idea is that it could be fun to rocket jump through all that space or run circles in the enemy's fort as scout but in practice the map design just encourages sentry turtling so both of those options are out the window. It's nearly impossible to have any fun on this map, I don't know why it was added into the official queue.

Massive respect to the map maker for making emporium worksloppers seethe because they couldn't get their undeserved cut for this map they had no part in developing
