The Chevrolet Caprice is a full-size car produced by Chevrolet in North America for the 1965 to 1996 model years. Full-size Chevrolet sales peaked in 1965 with over a million sold. It was the most popular car in the U.S. in the 1960s and early 1970s, which, during its lifetime, included the Biscayne, Bel Air, and Impala.

This is the third generation of the Chevrolet Caprice which was built from 1977 to 1990 on GM´s B-platform. It was available as coupe, station wagon and sedan and with several V6 and V8 engine options to choose from. Later the Caprice featured three trim levels: the Caprice, Caprice Classic and the top-of-the-line Caprice Brougham (which was only available for sedan models). In 1986 it received a major exterior redesign while discontinuing the "Impala" name plate to merge all full-size Chevrolets under the "Caprice" name. This is a 1987 model with composite headlamps and all smaller design changes for the ´87 model year. This Caprice is also equipped with the Regular Production Option 9C1 package for police use which featured a modified engine and other features to improve the car for law enforcement use, making it the fastest full-size police car for 1987, winning over the Ford LTD Crown Victoria and Dodge Diplomat/ Plymouth Fury.
