Amtrak P42DC Silver Star (Autoreverse)

Description
America's Railroad

About

The General Electric Genesis series P42DC locomotive has been the backbone of Amtrak's long-distance fleet for the last 20 years, with 207 locomotives being produced for the railroad. Although being phased out by the newer Siemens Charger series, the P42s remain a favourite among engineers to this day for their smooth ride and reliability for all routes and conditions throughout the US.
The Silver Star is one of Amtrak's two Silver Service routes, travelling from New York Penn and the Northeast Corridor to Florida's largest cities.

This trainset features auto-reversing locomotives for easy use.

The version with a modelled cab can be found here.

This train has an extensive set of custom effects, from engine and coach sounds to light effects, that all mirror the real thing as closely as possible. To take full advantage of them, you'll need the following mods:

Vehicle Effects and Extra Vehicle Effects required for audio and particle effects.

Custom Effect Loader required for light effects.

Due to the level of detail I wanted in my builds, the P42DC model is quite resource intensive. If you don't mind missing out on the Amtrak branding, I recommend using Bsquiklehausen's Citylink-liveried P42s for less detailed builds or lower-end systems.

Nerd Notes™

As my first foray into vehicle creation, this asset is certainly far from perfect. I've been working on it on and off for over 2 years now and it could probably be more efficient or more accurate, maybe even both at the same time. That said, I set out with the goal of adding a level of detail to my trains that I just couldn't find on the Workshop at the time, and I really believe I've succeeded. I'm happy to finally release my P42DC consists, but even happier with the things I've learned along the way and excited to better apply them on many trains into the future.

As always, if you like the pack don't forget to rate up and share!

If you really like my assets and want to support me, you can do so on Patreon[www.patreon.com] where I take commissions from patrons and post updates on my projects. (when I remember) I'm trying a new thing where along with each asset release, I write a bit about something I learned along the way - for example, with my first P42 release I wrote a short essay on custom effects, and what I did to get the most I could out of them.

To commission me directly, contact me via email at astrategynerd@gmail.com or just comment on my profile to discuss other methods of communication. I am currently quite busy with university and other assets though, so depending on the type of request I may redirect you to a number of other quality creators.

Coming soon™

Got a few commissioned prop packs to finish up first, but if you're following me anywhere I'll probably post more info on them once the other packs near release

A great long train to add to the assortment, but are those position lights I see 👀
