Wulþus Gutþiudō

Descripción
Sad that Paradox never added in the Crimean Goths to CK3? Annoyed that they were just Greek but with Saxon faces in CK2? Ever wanted to play as one of the Vandals, Ostrogoths, Gepids, or Burgundians in the current timeline of CK3? Then this mod is for you! Wulþus Gutþiudō (Glory of the Goths) is my attempt at adding in these various Eastern Germanic peoples to CK3 while also trying to make them feel at home in the game rather than as add-ons. I tried my best to add in these cultures with the idea in mind of how they might've changed or become if they hypothetically survived.

Features

  • The addition of a new Eastern Germanic culture group with several cultures: Gothic (and Ostrogothic), Vandals, Gepids, Burgundians.

  • The Crimean Gothic culture has been re-added from CK2 and is notably more germanic, reflecting evidence of their language lasting up until the 9-10th centuries!

  • Ostrogoths have been added into the Latin group and are fully romanized, mirroring their sister culture of the Visigoths.

  • Visigoths are no longer a dead culture, being survived by two new characters with connections to the old kingdom.

  • The addition of a new religion under the Norse group (renamed Germanic): Alþeis Sidus (Gothic for Old Custom), representing the pre-Christian faith of the Eastern Germanic peoples. Arianism has also been added to Christianity, secretly being followed by one character and openly by another.

  • The enigmatic Bastarnae have been added in via the Bastarnic culture. They are of Dacian heritage, speak Gothic, and their names are a mix of Dacian and Continental Celtic (gothicized) names to represent diverse and ethnically diverse the Bastarnae are.

Characters

Yafar "al-Quti" of the Banu Ludhariq
Located in Plasencia, Al-Andalus is Yafar the Goth, dubious descendant of King Roderic who seeks to unite Hispania under Visigothic might.

Theudigislo Veremondiz de Asturias
The legitimized bastard of Veremondo Wimaraniz and the last living member of house Asturias sits on his throne in Zamora, Asturas, yearning to push out the Umayyad and bring God back to Iberia.

Dagaric Burgundes
Dagaric, the remaining vestige of Burgundian nobility, feasts and dreams in Valentinois, Lotharingia for the prestige of his people to be restored.

Sunhivad Sunhivadingi
The lordling of Urbino, Italy who sits alone among a sea of "Romans", craving for the opportunity to carve through his fellow vassals reestablish Gothic authority over Italia.

Merobaudes "al-Fandali" de Carthago
Sheik of the Aghlabid Sultanate in Satfura, Merobaudes the Vandal is often looked upon as an oddity by his contemporaries. He prides himself with his heritage, clinging onto the old ways and dreaming of one day ruling the Mediterranean.

Audaulf Wulf
The lonesome noble of Arad, Bulgaria who stands surrounded by Daco-Romans, Slavs, and men of the saddle. Perhaps he shall serve his horse lords loyally, or perhaps he shall emulate his ancestors and rebel against the steppe.

Kaigiza af Bastarnia
A count of Bulgaria living in Silistra, he is the very last of any ruling Bastarnae. With a strange culture that is a mishmash of elements from Germanic, Dacian, and Celtic, he is anomaly in the current medieval world. It maybe time to remind his so-called "liege" why the Bastarnae were so feared centuries ago.

Planned Additions

  • Add decisions to reform the old kingdoms such as the Kingdom of the Visigoths.

Author's Notes

Because of the idea adding in these cultures under the pretense of them hypothetically surviving all this time, there a few quirks with them. Some Vandals that spawn may occasionally look like Arabs thanks to living and intermingling with the populace of North Africa for so long. Likewise, some Gepids may appear Asiatic from them being subjugated and mixing with the Avars and then Bolghars. Crimean Goths may appear Hellenistic or Asiatic as well from them living on the outskirts of the Eastern Roman Empire and on the front lawn of the Pontic Steppe.

Crimean Goths, even once I proliferate the cultures into counties, will not have a playable character as Kerch (where they will specifically live) is ruled by Petronas Kamateros who is the historic ruler of that area at the time. Kerch itself will be of Crimean Gothic culture to make up for this and he will have several in his court.

If names seem be written strangely, its from me trying to diversify them so that each culture felt unique. I did try to base it off history when I could. Both Gepids and Vandals feature conservative spellings of certain names (the preservation of the final -s in some words as well as the use of -x for Vandals for the sound of -ks). Speaking of language, Vandals and Gepids speak African Romance (African Vulgar) and Pannonian Romance (Pannonian Vulgar), respectively. Burgundians speak D'Oïl Vulgar, as they also supplied words to it while their indigenous language was still alive.

This seems to somehow mess with some nomadic counties by giving them no culture (mostly around Khazaria) & causes crashing.
If there was a compatch for culture expanded once it finally updates, that'd be interesting since both have cultures that speak "African Vulgar", but as it is, they're treated as two separate languages with the same name.

There's a bug in this mod that causes divergent cultures (Not even added by this mod) that to change their languages to Pannonian or African Vulgar for some reason.

I think that there might be a bug with the east germanic cultures with the "Norse" fashion. The only clothing they wear is just the white tunic that they wear when they are sick. This could, though also be a problem caused by either CFP, EPE, both or some other mod that I use.

can you remove ecumenism from arianism? i feel like ecumenism for them would make more sense if you had a major decision where you install an arian head of faith to negotiate with the pope/patriarch.

@Woden Warrior

Fixed!

Great feedback. I see you've added the famous "Bastards" tribe too, with Dacian heritage meaning if you hybridise with the Vlachs you can form a true Dacian culture.
I have noticed one other issue. This mod causes Armenians and Georgians to have an unnamed heritage, rather then the Caucasian heritage.

@Woden Warrior

Fixed the Akan in Crimea, they changed the province in the current version so it was an incompatibility

After time and effort isolating my mods down to just this one, this mod now appears to be displaying "Akan" culture in Northern Crimea. Please update the mod.
