MCI Scorpius (SC)

Description
MCI Shipyards presents the latest in the dedicated fighter craft line: the Scorpius Heavy Assault Fighter!

This is a Star Citizen-inspired craft, interpreted to work in EGS. Made for REFORGED EDEN only!

Also - big thanks to Grisbane for the alpha-testing and input on the drive and weapons systems!

General Use:

Scorpius is a Core 9 SV platform made for mobile engagement. At 83t and 16.5m wingspan she is the fastest and most manoeuvrable fighter in the MCI family and supports upgrades to both weaponry (from 6 to 12 fixed mounts) and thruster (extra 4 wing-mounted advanced large thrusters) further making her the most customisable and the heaviest hitter of the line. She is warp-capable and has reasonable, but not excessive ammo storage - so she is carrier-based fighter made to assist in system missions. All of this paired with a spacious interior and the MCI’s signature Reactive Pilot Display with programmed functionality.

Piloting and Defences:

She is well protected shield fighter, sporting a Heavy Shield Generator with additional parts to augment shield capacity and recharge. Her armour is a further carefully placed mix of Combat, Hardened and Standard Steel and her internal bulkheads will prevent cascading if hit – however, if unshielded, a capital missile volley will likely cripple her like any other small SV without volumetric armour.

Scorpius is mobile in both pitch and yaw, and sports better than most MCI craft strafe acceleration. However, she is still better flown in flat orbits: turn autobreak off, pilot mode on (optional), point slightly past the target and hit full throttle, then start yawing towards the target while maintaining the acceleration – you will find your momentum carrying you around in circles in a flat orbit around the enemy ship with your guns constantly pointing at it and good to shoot. It’s a free-fall flight, takes practice but works wonders.

Weapons:

The stock model comes with 6 Plasma Cannons and 3 Minigun Turrets. Plasma is equally good against shields and armour and is an omni weapon-of-choice for SVs until you can afford to equip torpedoes for more serious hull-breaking business.

Once the recommended CPU upgrades – up to 3 Aux/Quantum cores – are installed, the weapon compliment can be augmented further to suit your tastes. Example anti-capital weapon configs could include:
- 12x Plasma Cannons
- 6x Heavy Laser Cannons + 2x Torpedo Launchers
- 4x Modulated Pulse Laser cannons (Gamma/Infrared) + 2x Torpedo Launchers

Note: stock Scorpius comes with 4x Advanced Generators that will struggle to support Modulated Lasers. Extra generators can be installed in place of the bulkheads that separate existing generators from the CPU parts, but it’s a post-market upgrade and at your own discretion.
Note also that, while all weapons can be toggled via the standard control panel switch, that will also toggle the Long Range Radar, so you won’t be able to fly and scan with your weapons off. Instead all weapons are bound to the “Weapons” Custom signal – activatable via the control panel or the Ctrl+Alt+2 key combination. When upgrading or changing weapons, make sure you slave all of the added mounts to the same signal in the Signal Logic Tab.

Upgrades:

Scorpius comes with designated space for up to 3x Aux/Quantum Cores that can be installed instead of the dummy blocks in the cockpit space. Further slots can be found by removing some of the container extensions (for example the sloped extensions right in front of the Shield Capacitors to the left and right of the pilot seat).

In addition to the detailed weapon upgrades, the frontal acceleration can be further augmented by installing additional thrusters in the wings (see pics). This will compensate for the extra weapon and ammo weight. Note that all of the thrusters are linked to the “Engines” Custom Signal – so be sure to slave the newly added thrusters to it in the Signal Logic tab.

Creature Comforts:

Scorpius comes with a spacious cockpit space accessible via the ramp at the back. This allows to work directly on the internal components and rearrange them to your liking. She also comes with an oxygen station – in the roof above the ramp – and an armour locker to the right of the pilot seat.

Like the MCI Polaris M CV missile carrier and the MCI Galaxy SLV, the Scorpius and the Hornet both now come with a smart Reactive Pilot Display in the cockpit. Key combinations now allow to toggle the custom signals: so Ctrl+Alt+1 will toggle Thrusters, Ctrl+Alt+2 will toggle Weapons, Ctrl+Alt+3 will toggle the Long Range Radar (it eats quite a bit of fuel) – respective indicators will update on the display. Additionally, Ctrl+Alt+4 will toggle the cockpit lights.

Feature Summary:

- Made for REFORDED EDEN carrier-based Heavy Fighter, Shield-tanked

- 16.5m wide, 14.5m long and 7m tall – fits into 9 x 8 x 4 CV block (W:L:H) hangar space

- Core 9, runs at 98% efficiency, upgradable – remove placeholder blocks in the locations indicated in the images, install up to 3 Aux/Quantum cores (see pictures)

- Heavy Shield Generator + parts to a total 4380 shield capacity with 175 recharge rate

- Jump Drive, Long Range Radar

- Flat-orbit-oriented drive system, upgradable (see pictures)

- 6x Plasma Cannons, 3x Minigun Turrets, upgradable, with designated spaces for up to 6 extra fixed weapon mounts (see pictures)

- Total 4172L Ammo Storage Capacity (can be used to store a bit of loot after the battle)

- Reactive Pilot Display and programmed functionality to operate Thrusters (Ctrl+Alt+1), Weapons (Ctrl+Alt+2), Long Range Radar (Ctrl+Alt+3) and Cockpit Lights (Ctrl+Alt+4)

- Cockpit space with access to internal components, Wi-Fi, Armour locker (in the cockpit space), Oxygen Station (outside above the exit ramp)

- Smart landing lights, automated exit ramp

Hope you enjoy!

P.S. We all know that RG2 is coming in hopefully not too distant future (Thanks Vermillion!), but don’t worry – as most other MCI Shipyards craft, Scorpius is designed with transferability in mind and will be re-released for RG2 when the time comes.

I'll consider this once I am done with the Falcon. Right alongside with the Cobra from ED as core-2 to core-9 CV.

@NIWI this is what I figured, another SLV like your awesome Galaxy SLV. Yup cargo bay at back.
retractable top/bottom turret. 4 main guns. space for 4 more or something.

Haha, thanks) I can see why you asked about the Zeuss - seeing how it has a resembling cockpit. I can see it done as an SLV. Maybe with a medium sized cargo-bay at the back...? Or with a tank bay for something like a Cataphract to do joint air-ground ops. Elegant ship, maybe interesting to build.

RSI Zeus when? :) nice ships!

Apologies, folks. Jay's review today revealed a couple of minor flaws in Signal Programming (i can't type apparently). Corrected now. Also, updated armour distribution to better protect certain compartments (with minor changes to mobility: -1m/s2 to forward accel, +1 deg/s roll, +1 deg/s yaw)
