Description

This is a hovercraft very losely based on the LCAC hovercraft of the U.S. military. Hovercrafts propell themselves by blowing air into the skirt, and creating a kind of bubble of pressure, and then with propellers they glide on this bubble.
Hovercrafts are able to go on land and water equally since the pressure can build up under them either way. Hovercrafts only kryptonite is steep or uneven terrain or big waves. For this reason they are meant to be used in mild weather, and on reasonably sloped and not rocky coasts. In real life Hovercrafts are quite expensive and maintenance heavy vehicles, but my stormworks designs are on the cheap side and made to be reliable and easy to handle. This does not mean you dont have to learn how it behaves, but im here to help you with usefull checklists and tips. Hope you will experience how cool and interesting vehicles we can make, both in stormworks and IRL!

Walkthrough of the vehicle for operating personel
  • This vehicle can carry small vehicle (max 2t) not tested , PERSONEL MUST EXIT THE VEHICLE WHILE CARRIED!
  • up to 3 passengers can travel with the vehicle Hearing protection is mandatory for passengers!
  • This vehicle is powered by two 12 cylinder radials, watercooled and naturally aspirated.
  • It can run on one engine, but thats only for safety, please operate the vehicle with both engines if you can
  • each engine has an access hatch, opened via a button in the cockpit (left-back), fuel ports and recharge points are behind these doors for safety reasons.
  • The Master Power Breaker is in the cockpit (right-back)
  • There are ropes cables, fire extinguishers and first aid kits in the middle hatches, should the need arise.
  • Door has a low profile button, to not be hit by cargo, if you stand on the deck, its at arms height, about 0.5m below the window

Drivers guide and important notes

The skirt will collapse on water if you do a complete stop, or get a vector more than 90 degrees.
Vector means where the craft is actually moving, since the hovercaft can glide in every direction it can turn semi- independently of the vector of velocity, you can use this for your advantage for sharp turns (on land)
If the nose dips into the water on one side, turn away from that side and it will level itself, if the whole nose dips, do rapid slalom and it should fix it.

This vehicle is incapable to reverse and if it goes backwards in water it will sink for sure.
The main body of the water is airtight so it can float, but its very glitch and not recommended, also spawning it on water isnt recomended for the same reasons, however you can do these.

for fine steering tap the A/D keys, for more steering hold the direction you wanna turn for short bursts, and preemptively tap the opposite direction to stop the turning. Allways keep in mind, turning will push you forward too.
always be mindfull that this vehicle has effectively 0 friction, it WILL slide, if you turn off the air to skirt, that is your handbrake.

Hovercrafts are not meant for extreme hillclimbing nor bad weather sailing please never operate it over 25% wind.
Also slow down when you want to transition to/from the coast, and choose the flattest possible places.

There are warning indicators and an alarm, if you hear the buzzer, examine the engine panels to the right, the light shows which engine has problem(s) and from the gauges you can identify the problem. The alarm will go off if there is less than 10% fuel or charge left or the engines cooling water is hotter than 80celsius. I have not stress tested the engines yet, but they seem stable.

Notes for the captain (challenge Foxtrot)

ive painted a line, where your trucks front end should be, paste it above the hovercraft there please. it should fall in its place and the electric connectors should engage. if its the upper connector thats alright, just a cosmetic error.
As i said its not meant to float on the water powered off, but it can do it, but expect some splashing, also dont drop it into the water please:)

Have fun!
