LEARN HOW TO READ (B41)

Description
WORKS IN MP/SP, WITH ALL MODS AND ON EXISTING SAVES

You were an illiterate caveman who was no different than a stray dog from the civilization. However, the situation forced you into developing yourself. Start it, by learning how to read.

This mod adds the ability for illiterate characters to slowly learn reading by watching TV and VHS tapes (subtitles). Beware though, this mod is aimed not to make illiterate trait OP, so it will be hard to learn reading all by yourself.



HOW DOES IT WORK ? :
  1. First, you need to watch TV and get your LearningReading level up to 3. You will become a slow reader then.

  2. Afterwards, you will be able to slowly read some books. You will need to reach level 5 to be a "normal reader".

  3. And ultimately, when you reach the level 8 in the skill, you will gain the "Fast Reader" trait.



If you didn't pick the Illiterate trait, then you can level up Learn Reading skill by just reading books.



This is my first attempt on creating a LUA based mod, so please forgive any mistakes and take your time to write issues, recommendations and feedback in the comments section.

The mod is bugged with the Skill Recovery Journal, when I recover my reading skill which is at level 10, through the Skill Recovery Journal mod book, I don't get the fast reader trait. Could this be fixed?

You should make slow reader give you 3 levels on learning to read skill (with no exp boost) on character creation

@Coldsteel, it will be possible in B42 I hope. As right now VHS tapes are not written like actual items but just some weird code blocks that need insane amount of unoptimized coding to implement this.

Could be nice if you can make a similar mod except you learn to read by watching preschool show VHS tapes. Would be more realistic since those pretty commonly teach basic reading and math, while learning a written language from subtitles is basically not a thing.
