[HS]-Clash of the Titans (LNER A3)

In 1 collection by Highball Simulation
Riviera Line in the Fifties Scenarios
29 items
Description
In 1925, the LNER’s A1 Pacifics suffered a severe drubbing courtesy of the Great Western’s Castle Class. This prompted Gresley to develop the A3 locomotives. The year is 1948, a few months after Nationalisation, and Ex-LNER A3 No. 103 Flying Scotsman has been sent to the Western Region for performance testing. Not surprisingly, tempers have flared up, with engines crews keen to settle an old score. You will drive No. 103 on a test train from Exeter St. David’s to Newton Abbot to gauge its performance compared to a Castle Class. Remember, this is more than just a test run-the very honour of the Eastern Region is at stake! Duration: 25 minutes.

Note: This scenario was originally intended to use the Wartime A3 pack. However, I am currently unable to get the pack working properly, so in the meantime the older A3 pack was used instead. I apologise in advance for the anachronistic liveries used, and will release an alternate version with a period accurate livery in the near future.

@chris Glad you enjoyed. I only travelled behind Scotsman once-on a trip from York to Scarborough and return. Good run, though. It would be nice to get a decent recreation of Didcot Railway Centre in the simulator. No shame in referencing the Railway Series-not only was Awdry a railway enthusiast committed to absolute technical accuracy in his stories, the books developed a sizeable adult fanbase during their original publication run.

Wow that was fun, albeit I arrived a minute late. I have ridden behind Flying Scotsman - at Didcot, not a long ride but at least I can say I have been in a train pulled by Flying Scotsman. Yes, I did ride behind Thomas the Tank engine as well, but fortunately I had my young grandsons with me so could say it was for them.!! Good fun though to drive it at speed - this was my first run with it but will go again to beat the Castle time. Kind Regards. Chris
