Näsinneula observation tower

Näsinneula is an observation tower and an iconic landmark in Tampere, Finland. The tower is 134,5 m tall (168,0 m including the antenna), which makes it the tallest building in Finland (as of 2023).

The tower and the aquarium and planetarium at its base are a part of Särkänniemi amusement park. The aquarium and planetarium were the first attractions in the park, opened in 1969. The tower was opened two years later in 1971. The aquarium has 200 species of fish and also reptiles and amphibians. The planetarium was closed in 2023 until further notice due to technical problems (the projector is very old and spare parts are difficult to get).

The tower has an outdoor observation deck at 110 m (currently closed). The public elevators go up to 120 metres where there is the observation deck and cafe. There is a restaurant on the floor above at 124 m. The restaurant floor is rotating, one revolution takes 45 minutes (the in-game asset has a fixed restaurant floor).

The antenna includes a weather beacon that shows the weather forecast with green and yellow light patterns. All yellow stands for sunny and all green stands for rain. This asset has fixed in-game pattern of two yellow and one green for overcast.

Näsinneula (lit. Näsi needle) was inspired by Puijo observation tower in Kuopio and Space Needle in Seattle. The name is a reference to the Näsijärvi lake.
