The Habsburgs
A new emperor unites Castille, Aragon, Southern Italy, the Low Countries, Austria plus the new colonies in America. He has to fight many rebellions, from the Castillian comuneros to the Protestant reformers. He also has to fight surrounding powers, such as France and the Ottomans. Looking for a strong events base, mostly for the rebellions and for offmap land, i.e. America and South-East Asia. Also, best not to let the viceroys become too entrenched and powerful.

The Ottomans
Suleiman the Magnificent has just come to power. His father Selim had conquered Egypt and Western Arabia from the Mamluks. Now Suleiman can continue expanding over the Mediterranean, and beat the so-called Caliph in Tunis. There is also an opportunity to take the weak Kingdom of Hungary. One must be careful, however, not to loose out on the trade war against Portugal and its Indian Ocean allies.

Portugal
A small kingdom with the wealthiest king in Europe. It is impossible to beat the land-based Spanish, so the Portuguese have a maritime empire, taking key towns on the Atlantic coast and around the Indian Ocean.

France
Still one of the most powerful states in Europe, which can easily challenge the Habsburgs. The broken-up Holy Roman Empire is an easy prey, but one must look out not to be surrounded by Habsburg-led alliances.

England
Henry VIII Tudor, famous for establishing the Anglican church and marrying many times, rules England. Will he retain Calais, his last continental possession?

The Safavids
Ismail, the teenager who became Shah, now rules over a bast empire. There remains the problem that the mostly-Sunni, heterogeneous Persia might prefer a ruler that isn't a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Safavid. Moreover, Shah Ismail shares borders with the mighty Ottomans on the West and the unstable Turko-Mongol states on the North and the East.

The Mughals
Still living through hardship, Babur, the founder of the Mughal dynasty, will soon forge a large empire dominating the Indian Subcontinent.

Songhay
The Empire of Mali is in decline, so Mansa Muhammad, founder of the Askia dynasty, might soon be able to fully control the gold mines that are so prized across the Sahara.
Other cool ones: Poland-Lithuania, the Kalmar Union (about to end), Hungary (same), the Uzbeks, Ethiopia, some German states, and Novgorod.
