I assume it's because the hemosage abilities spray hemo everywhere usually using your hemogen reserve. So it's hemogen that causes the nausea, and hemogen that you only get from humans (inc xenotypes).
(Presumably they got nausea because their buddy's insides just got sprayed all over them)
Hence, you control hemogen and only creatures that contain hemogen can be the target of those abilities. I guess those creatures should also be susceptible to said abilities too.
That would be my guess.
