Cloak and Dagger Tomes [2.0]

Description
Overview
A collection of Shadow Tomes inspired by the Rogue class from AoW3, themed around in flanking, blinding, deception, debuffs and shadow magic. In addition to paying homage to a classic AoW archetype I also wanted to enable a Shadow Affinity playstyle that is independent from necromancy and ice magic.

Features
  • Tome of Vice - tier 1 - Deprave your people with the lure of vice. Specialize in underhanded Flanking attacks and increasing your Gold income at the expense of City Stability. Features the Cutthroat unit.
  • Tome of Whispers - tier 2 - Use fear and manipulation to rule from the shadows. Specialize in using espionage to infiltrate, subvert and assassinate your enemies. Features the Assassin and Succubus units.
  • Tome of Shades - tier 3 - Wield darkness to Blind your foes and hunt them with creatures cloaked in shadow. Features the Shadow Stalker unit.

Compatibility
No changes to any of the base game .rpk files.

Integrations
This mod is now integrated with Komogi's Unique Unit Rank Bonuses mod! To enable the integration you simply need to have both this mod and Unique Unit Rank Bonuses enabled, this will cause the Cutthroat, Assassin, Succubus and Shadow Stalkers to have unique rank bonuses.

Known Issues
  • The "Infiltrate Defenders" siege project combat enchantment does not display until after the first turn of combat. This is a workaround for an issue with the turn sequence of the auto-spell that triggers the unit to spawn. It will still trigger correctly 2 turns after the start of combat.
  • A previous version of this mod had a .zip file containing an older version backup in the mod folder, which might have been responsible for some crashes. I have removed the file from the mod but this unfortunately might not remove it from your local workshop folder even if you unsub/resub to clear the files. My recommendation is to check the folder (Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\1669000\2989849682) to check if it has a "Rogue_Tomes_v1_backup" folder and delete it. Sorry for the inconvenience!

  • Timber who created the Tome art for the 1.0 version.
  • Lord Vectra and Shadow Rytes for their playtesting and feedback for the new version.
  • Komogi for creating the Unique Unit Rank Bonuses integration and Daniel for figuring out how to set up optional dependencies which made it possible to do without a separate compatibility mod.

I haven't been able to replicate the problem with the missing Assassin head, it looks fine on my end. I would suggest re-testing it with all other mods uninstalled to see if the issue is still there.

My guess is you guys have another mod which is causing a compatibility issue. If you can figure out which mod is causing the conflict then let me know and I will look into it, otherwise I can't really help you.

Elven assassins also seem to be missing a face. Thankfully the hood somewhat hides it in-game, but it's still uncanny valley a bit when looking at the character card.

I seem to have issues with the Assassin unit as it's missing a face-mesh when I play as humans or wolves.

Now this is exactly what I want to see in a tome mod: something that allows for a significantly different playstyle vs choosing other tomes to make it stand out from the crowd. So many other tomes (both base-game and modded) boil down to "damage spell," "buff spell," "debuff spell," and "generic summon unit" exactly like a dozen other tomes. How many let you roleplay a criminal empire?

So my game keeps crashing to the desktop when it's loading the enemy turn saying "Waiting for combat".

Someone on the Steam forum told me to try and turn off the tomb mods I used as it may be when an enemy tried to cast a new spell from a mod.

So I did that, and it all works now.
I only used two tomb mods, including this.
So hope you might want to look into it :)

@maudin88 This mod is also hosted on Paradox Mods which lets you download an older version. Note that it will not be fully compatible with the current patch unless you make the changes yourself.

Tried to use these and they are a great idea, but assassins were way to op.
