In development for over 2 years now, we present to you: NewCity. This mod is going to take your Cities: Skylines experience to the next level by overhauling various aspects of the game, including, but not limited to, graphics, interface, and gameplay.

Nah I'm just kidding, it's just another music mod.

Wait! Before you leave, there's an interesting backstory to this!

As you can tell, NewCity isn't actually a fleshed out mod for Cities: Skylines. It's actually a whole city-builder game that was unfortunately abandoned by its developers last May.

NewCity was initially announced back in 2018, and it immediately garnered a lot of attention from city-building game enthusiasts. The game promised to take the genre to the next level with its stunning scale and faithful retro graphics.

Many people, myself included, were excited about the game's potential, and the developers opened a closed beta on Indiegogo. They released several teasers and gameplay videos, which kept the hype alive.

The game was finally released on Steam in 2020 to mild acclaim. However, the game was still riddled with bugs at this point, but the developers decided to continue adding new features instead of fixing the underlying issues.

By late 2021, the team announced an art overhaul. Unfortunately, this is where things started to go downhill. They released the update to an open beta, and the game became more riddled with bugs than it was before. There were people unable to even start the game, and a terrible bug that ripped highways and subways every time you loaded in, effectively rendering the game unplayable.

The developers took their sweet time fixing these bugs and pushed out their last patch in May of 2022. They never even pushed the full update to the public branch.

Almost a year on, the NewCity community is still barely hanging on. All we have left is our Discord server.

A few enthusiasts and I kept the discussion going all this time, and we decided to take a gamble by making this mod.

Soundtrack v2 refers to the planned overhaul of the game's music. However, it was never completed and only one song was shared as a demo to the playerbase.

Vapour Modpack refers to the songs for the modpack under the same name that was added a few years ago. It was meant to be a future apocalyptic environment, reminiscent of 1984 but more neon. I find it ironic that it's called the Vapour Modpack since the game is (at least for now) vapourware.
