How to Deal with Death in ROTMG
Por Stockfish lvl 10
This guide is going to be an insight into how to deal with deaths and how to rebuild from it, this has largely been influenced by my own experience and other around me, but also from many forum threads on this steam discussion.

Terms that are frequently used
Shotgunned = An instantaneous burst of damage from a boss or monster which deletes your character from the game.

Loot = Items dropped from monsters in the game in different coloured bags

Soul-Bound (SB) = A bag that is dropped that is only visible to you such as a purple, blue or white bag.

ETS = Easy to Sell (items)

HTS = Hard to Sell (items)

Why are you dieing and how to stay alive longer
Often times people die they blame it on "lagg" or being shotgunned and how they can do nothing to stop it, and most complaints about this are FALSE.

The reason for this is when you die it does not show a replay of your last moments of death, only the mob that killed you. This means that many inexperienced players feel like they are dieing out of nowhere or being shotgunned whereas the more experienced player can look at a screen and see the threats much more quickly.

But just saying you need more experience doesn't help me!

This is true, and to be fair it isn't something you can fix quickly but there are steps that you can take to assist in reducing lagg and gaining more awareness.

Step 1:

Play on flash projector.

Flash projector is a client made by adobe which allows you to play games on it. But why use it?

When playing ROTMG on steam you often get "input lagg" which makes your character be less reactive to your movements, to be more specific it is the delay between you character receiving your signal and your character moving. By using flash projector to play you minimize the input lagg and allow your characters to react more quickly to your touch.

In my personal experience, I played on steam for about 500 hours on this acount before swapping to flash projector. It isn't going to make you completely invincible and able to dodge every bullet but it does help in being able to dodge these "shotguns" which players on steam often get hit by.

You can download Flash projector here : http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

You can open Rotmg on the flash projector by:

1. Go to ROTMG on the web browser
2. Right click OUTSIDE ROTMG (in the black bits)
3. View page info
4. Media and copy and paste the "Location"
5. On the Flash projector press open and then Paste in the adress.

Step 2:

Play on Offset

This is pretty standard but play on offset and allow rotations of the screen. (E and V for me but most people use E and Q)

You will find it pretty weird to play like this i garuntee it but once you get used to it you can see projectiles and mobs coming from a futher distance away therefore giving you more time to react.

A lot of people play on centered and it is not impossible to get good at playing like that but it obscures your vision and relies on better reaction time. At the end of the day you can choose not to do this and maintain you play better like this and it is uncomfortable to play otherwise but its your character and if it really suits you then disregard this.

But chances are you are looking at this guide because you died, so play off centered and allow rotations, it helps in the long run, don't let your pride get in the way of staying alive.

Step 3:

Play and have fun!

Despite it not being a "team game" it is a co-op game, meaning you are meant to help your friends and assist them, which is what guilds are for!

Guilds - If you do not have any maxed characters or fame your first priority should be getting into an active guild, it doesnt' matter how good they are but a "noob friendly" guild helps!
If you can try and get into Skype or Team speak with them, the game is far more enjoyable that way!

Rebuilding - Rebuilding has got to be the most boring thing in the world of realm of the mad god, but eventually you have to do it, you can't stay alive forever. If you are the only one who died within your group of friends/guildmates or even if you aren't try and convince them to join you on a NPE, which is that you all start from a new character and work your way up to max. Again, its more fun if you do things together.

Be Sympathetic - Be sympathetic to other people's deaths, you don't HAVE to give them stuff but a kind word and maybe helping them get to level 20 wouldn't hurt. Just remember that if you were in their position you would want some help too.

I just died?! What should I do?
As with everything; stay calm.

But I just lost everything that I earnt by playing for 20 hours, I worked so hard!

ROTMG is a unique game in which its a "one life" and you lose everything, therefore it's important to "save for a rainy day". Your vault should be comprized of potions and items which you can quickly resell if you suddenly die.

ETS items such as Life and Def are very vaulable in times of need whereas HTS items such as Ninja tops are increasingly hard to sell. Keep that in mind when storing things in your vault.

The most important thing to do as soon as you die is think about how you died and why it happened. As i said in my last chapter, it's a co-op game but you control your own character, don't blame other people for your mistakes.

The hard truth is YOU DIED which is a result of YOUR ACTIONS which means it is YOUR FAULT

When you learn this you can taken your first steps of ROTMG, and will undoubtedly help you throughtout life.

Many people you meet will not be sympathetic to your death, many people in your guild will not blink twice if you die and much less help you rebuild. BUT if you truly believe that you are good at the game then you should be able to rebuild over time.

How should you Approach ROTMG
Many people think that the game is a Bullet Hell MMO relying on quick reflexed and a clear mind, which is half true but the most important factor about ROTMG is that;

ROTMG is a SURVIVAL GAME so you should TREAT IT LIKE ONE

Instead of playing the game like you would for a FPS this game requires much more patience, something not learnt in many other games. This game is so incredibly punishing for the player who are not patient and do not play the game carefully.

If you could treat this game like a survival game like Day-Z then perhaps you would die much less often. In such Zombie survival games guns are important but much more than that is food and water. Without food and water your guns are useless.

So what should I do?

The key to ROTMG is knowing what you can get away with and what you cannot.

For example, back in the days where i used to be hard working wizard mercilessly killing gods and going for events, I used to die. A LOT.
But why?
A helpful quote is "Risk vs Reward" I often saw my blue bag drop from events and such and in my rush to pick it up I died by more checking my surroundings, I was blinded by what i could get rather than my safety.
A more common example of this is when you have a few maxed stats and are doing events, you see that you get a drop from such event, possibly a blue maybe even a white bag. You can SEE that it is too dangerous to go in yet and you badly need to nexus, but if you leave then there is no chance for you to get the loot. Many inexperienced players would try and get the bag regardless and die for it whereas more experienced players would know that there current character is worth TWICE of that of which is in the bag.

You don't get the loot if you DIE, so there is no point in DIEING for the LOOT

Hopefully you remember this and try and clear the way before you try and get the loot next time but here are some helpful tips for picking up loot;

Swapping an item in your inventory = Holding one of your items in the inventory you can replace that worthless item with whatever is in the bag. This is by far the fastest way and can be used like a drivethrough (running over the bag and swapping while still running). Best used in dangerous scenarios and Drop parties ^^.

Double Clicking = you can double click on the loot on the ground to pick it up and is good for when you need to pick it up quickly but you are not in immediate danger.

Drag and drop = The "normal way" to get loot and is good for when there is no forseeable danger such as after a dungeon is cleared

I just died on my 3/8 knight in a lab (web browser, my name is BENJIYGAO, look me up), stupid rush, shotgunned on all sides when a rampage bot exploded. I am SO mad because I reinvested everything on it. I looked up advice, because I am tired of rebuilding, and here I am. This positive, side, I got lots of uts. I lost abbout a pixie's worth in this character. So I think that you should just think about not how your character died, BUT ALL THE COOL THINGS THAT IT DID. The good- thing too- lats of fame! So I am restarting again, with supporting friends and an alt account with a fall-back farming account. But the real key, is Think about what your character did, and get a good friendly guild and friends.
