Details – "Real" Version

The BR Class 385 "AT200" is an EMU manufactured by Hitachi Rail for use on electrified routes in Scotland, including the flagship Edinburgh to Glasgow via Falkirk High route. They replaced a number of aging DMUs and allowed existing EMUs such as the Class 380 to be cascaded to lower-priority routes.

The class comes in 3-car and 4-car sets, of which up to 3 can be coupled allowing for up to 12-car formations in revenue service, although the longest currently in use are 8-car formations.

With a top speed of 100 mph (161 km/h) this train is best suited for medium-distance commuter lines, or intercity services between cities which aren't very far apart. It can reach 100 km/h in just under 40 seconds and its top speed in under 100 seconds.

This version contains the following liveries, including 2 which were retired before this class came into service:
  • ScotRail Saltire (current)
  • SPT Carmine & Cream (retired between 2013 and 2019)
  • Strathclyde Transport Orange & Black (retired in the late 1990s)

There is also a version with separately selectable body and door colours.

While the 385 in SPTE Orange & Black is pure fantasy, it does see use on former SPT-branded routes such as the Cathcart Circle and Inverclyde Line, so with this you can imagine a reality where the gorgeous Carmine & Cream SPT livery was never phased out.

The ScotRail liveried 4-Car set has a first-class section with lower seat density, therefore has both reduced seated and standing capacities compared to the other 4-Car sets (I know from experience they won't let regular passengers stand in there even if it's busy).

Quoted seated-plus-standing capacities were estimated by measuring the area of free floor space and using a standard 6 pax/m² crush capacity.

Details – "Metro Configuration"

This is a fictional high-capacity version for use on "Glasgow Crossrail" services, inspired by the Class 345 used on the Elizabeth Line. It has open gangways (visible on the texture), all-longitudinal seating and no toilets (you'll have to imagine those), achieving a >50% increase in capacity over the commuter/intercity configuration.

The power-to-weight ratio is similar to the "Real" version so it should be possible to run the two types together on the same route, for example.

This comes only in SPTE Orange & Black since I made it for my own particular needs, but if there is demand I could make a version with the other liveries.

Any chance of a 200kph version without the nose gangway as per the original AT200 proposal?
