7.38c (Offlane) Stomping with Primal Beast Offlane (7.38)

Primal Beast Guide.

Intro:

This guide is based on a core, offlane role Primal Beast.

Primal Beast is a lane dominator with exceptional talents and one of the strongest late-game presences due to a specific talent. Establishing the early game is very important for this hero; Securing early denies helps Primal Beast snowball much earlier than most offlaners. If you enjoy being the highlight of every fight, the main damage dealer for most of the game, and the most feared hero on the map, this hero is for you.

Playstyle:

Firstly, what I want to say about Primal Beast is that you will be required to have a pair of balls to do well with him. Sitting at the back and waiting for an opportunity to go in is fine, but in lanes you need to take advantage of the Trample and Uproar damage combinations when possible... But let's talk about his facets...

Facet Choices (as of 7.38):

(Patch 7.38 introduced); If you slam a target, three times with Pulverise, you gain 75% bonus AoE to all your spells and items. Please note this works on all units in the game, including Roshan, neutral creeps and heroes. Which means, the best way to take advantage of this is to use Pulverise first before using trample or your items that give AoE bonuses such as Shiva's Guard. This facet currently boasts a 50% win rate.

The other Facet grants Uproar stacks when silenced or disabled, but it’s underwhelming, with only a 43% win rate. Primal Beast won't have many issues getting Uproar stacks in the middle of fights.

His Innate Ability:

It increases your right click damage to buildings by 40%. There is not a whole lot to say about this, note it will not proc any item effects, working similarly to Trample. If you happen to be attacking a building, great, but it's not your goal in the game unless the opponent heroes are dead.

Core Items & Peaks:

Buying Phase Boots and Windlace is a core choice each game. You want to be a fast dinosaur, not a slow one to take advantage of your Trample damage which procs based on your movement speed. Aghanim Scepter is a very good choice on Primal Beast as it increases his damage massively and breaks any passive abilities near you. Combine it with Pulverise, and not only will you break your targets passive abilities, but also do a huge amount of damage.

Late Game:

In the late game, Pulverise is one of the best spells in the game thanks to it going through debuff immunity so working on all targets who have Black King Bar enabled. His Level 25 talent extends Pulverise’s duration by 67%, with a staggering 66% win rate. Late game Primal Beast has a very high winrate, so don't feel required to end games early, though, he is good at that too.

Primal Beast has an exceptional late game. Once you have a lot of items, it's very hard to kill a hero with 5,000 health, and a load of resistances from items, including a potential Black King Bar on top of it. Your role in the late game is to lock down the enemy's top damage dealer followed by trampling through their team, crushing them to bits.

Support Synergy:

Ideal support partners include heroes with reliable setup stuns, like Lich or Windranger, to help Onslaught connect and allow him to stay on top of his enemies with Trample. Others would be ones such as Winter Wyvern or Dazzle, who can keep you alive when using Trample.

Matchups & Counters:

Carry matchups are less about direct counters and more about playing around their abilities. For example, Faceless Void will just undo your damage in lane and outdistance you with Time Walk. So use Uproar and Trample to force Time Walk before using Onslaught, so you can chase him down. Heroes like Kez and Troll Warlord can be disabled with Pulverise even during their respective ultimates, or during Black King Bar.

Primal Beast is not very good at defending supports because of how all-in his spells work, so keep that in mind if there's a hero who threatens them. Consider holding Pulverise for sneaky threats like Riki if they're targeting your supports.

Closing Thoughts:

At the end of the day, Primal Beast is a massive prehistoric wrecking ball. Your job? Smash everything in sight, make the enemy team panic, and remind them why mobility is a privilege. Just remember: speed is key, BKB is your best friend, and nothing feels better than trampling five heroes at once. Now go forth and stomp!
