Use the red bag to shuffle the guardhouses and place them randomly before playing. Move the state of the houses to 3 to reveal the gold or gray stud. To simulate the grappling hook mechanic, use the black arrow as a measuring stick to see if a space is within reach. This is the best solution I could come up with for this. I know it's not perfect.
