Crimson Swarm

Description
The Crimson Swarm: Interstellar Mercenaries is a ship pack. Focusing on diagonal ships and energy weapons.
The mercenary group was founded in the midst of war and crisis. The conflict between major rival factions presents countless opportunities. The Crimson Swarm travels the galaxy, always chasing bounties wherever they may be. The Crimson Swarm is more than just a mercenary group, it is a way of life, the way of the red path. Mercenary captains of many walks of life are drawn to the red path, for it leads to fame, fortune and glory through destruction and carnage on behalf of the highest bidder. Further delving into the swarm, one can find enlightenment within the red path in the form of the crimson beam. The most zealous Crimson Swarm captains yearns for the blessings of the crimson beam, so that their own red path grows ever brighter for all to see.

Red Zero
This is the starter training ship for initiate captains. Commanding this ship, the initiates are given an opportunity to prove themselves in warfare. "The ultimate goal of fame and fortune is sung in the ranks of the Crimson Swarm, and the red path is filled with carnage and destruction."

Reddy V1-I
This vessel is the initiates first introduction to the Ion arsenal, the pride of the Crimson Swarm. This ship will demonstrate the sheer raw power of the crimson beam of destruction.

Reddy V1-B
Blaster variant of the Reddy V1. Deals accurate shots to exposed parts. Suited for flanking purposes.

Reddy V2-I
The Reddy V2-I upgrades the engines for better maneuverability. Quickly closing the distance to take advantage of its ion weapons, increasing its damage at close range.

Reddy V3
The Reddy V3 upgrades the engines for even better maneuverability. Better speeds means distance advantage. Advanced manual piloting can take advantage of its strafing capability.

Thorne V1
No longer an initiate, a mercenary captain can command a Thorne. This ship is a power upgrade on all fronts. Increased ion damage output and heavier armor plates while maintaining superior maneuverability. "The crimson beam marks the red path for all to witness."

Spike V1
The Spike V1 streamlines the hull shape into a triangle shape. It upgrades the ion arsenal for more damage output and supported by disruptors to deal with pesky shields. Equipped with bigger engine clusters to maintain high speeds. "Deeper into the void, met with heavier resistance, the red path grows thicker."

Spike V2
This vessel focuses on the red path more accordingly. Mercenary captains of the Crimson Swarm prefers the blessing of the crimson beam, the disruptors are replaced with the Crimson Swarm's pride, ion beams. The 6x2 ion beams sheer firepower can quickly overwhelm small shields and pierce enemy armor. "The red path grows ever thicker."

Spike V3
A direct upgrade to the Spike V2. The brighter crimson beam can now overwhelm large shields. Heavier armor and matched with bigger engine clusters, this vessel is able to maneuver into a favourable position in combat. Point defenses are added to protect the engines from missiles, as maneuverability is a large part of both its offensive and defensive ability. "The red path grows even thicker and brighter."

Spike V4
Veteran mercenary captains desires more firepower. The ion chamber is doubled and fitted into a larger hull, a path is designed to direct both crimson beams into one middle channel. The larger hull also comes with heavier armor and more engine clusters to maintain high speeds and strafing capabilities. Advanced manual piloting can take advantage of its strafing capability. "Even deeper into the void, embracing the red path, the blessing of the crimson beam bathes the distinguished captains of the Crimson Swarm ever more."

Stigma V1
A side grade of the Spike V4, the dual ion chambers remains separate. Not being focused into a single channel saves it from additional damage loss and allows for more damage output overall. The absence of the middle channel structure reduces the ship mass somewhat, netting slightly better speeds as a result. Advanced manual piloting can take advantage of its strafing capability. "The red path conservatively remain united, the branching path is somewhat alien to the Crimson Swarm."

Stigma V2
A direct upgrade the Stigma V1. The Stigma V2 adds another ion chamber in the middle, increasing firepower. The crimson beams are projected through 3 channels. This is supported by more engine clusters to maintain high maneuverability. "Crimson commanders revels in the crimson light and bathe their enemies with it."

Spike V5
The last of the Spike series. Has triple ion chambers and directed into one middle channel. The larger hull allows for more armor ensuring longer lasting protection in sustained combat. Its increased firepower is sure to cause destruction and mayhem, paving the red path ever clearly and brightly. "The formidable crimson core sparks, the mighty crimson beam pierces the void, the red path is complete."

Xylem V1 V2 V3 V4
Small cargo ship to carry spoils of war. The wake of destruction left by the Crimson Swarm mercenaries is often followed by these cargo ships, rarely seen at the front but invaluable in growing the mercenary warfleet.

Stem V1 V2 V3 V4
Medium logistics ship. The Crimson Swarm leaves scores of wreckages in its path to fortune and glory. Often in these paths are the logistics vessels spotted, chipping away at the claimed spoils of war.

Any chance of making this into a Faction rather than just a ship pack?

Wow, thank you very much, that's awesome. Yes it's been awhile, unfortunately some parts of the designs are outdated.

I started the game with your ships because the aesthetic was cool. I've got enough time in game now that I kinda want to start designing my own, so I'm going through oneye's (now dated) set of guides. I now realize exactly how phenomenal these ships really are. You nail almost every one of oneye's guidelines on cost efficiency.

There's some minor downtime on the beam with the spike v3, but I suspect that might be due to changes in power production since you last updated? But other than that very minor quibble, these ships are friggin perfect.

Last thing to people who come to this ship set later: these are the perfect starter ships. The game's AI currently handles kiters fantastically well and other ships not so much, so you don't need to manually control your ship or micromanage your fleet. Each step up in ship size correlates surprisingly well to the next difficulty tier, so upgrading is pleasantly straightforward.

Just want to thank you for sharing these ships. Your designs were what originally inspired me to make a massive ship. I now have 600+ hours in game as a result <3
