Lingering Reflexes...

Description
Super special thanks to belette for his awesome mod Random Zombies! This mod simply uses the cognition code.

=============================================================

=============================================================

What is this mod?

Throughout your play-through, you may rarely encounter undead unlike others. Those that, despite their necrotic and deteriorated bodies, are able to access figments of their trapped psyches, into their lingering reflexes.

This mod enables a rare chance for a few of the undead within the world to be smarter than others.

This mod is intended as a small addition to Lingering Whispers, to fully immerse you within the world of the extremely broken & degraded minds of the undead.

If the rare whispers of undead protospeech weren't terrifying enough, now their extremely degraded and unconscious minds can remember faded muscle-memory reflexes, being able to open doors.

The chances of encountering such a zombie is similar to the probability within Lingering Whispers. They will be rare, and you very well may forget you installed this mod..

...better make sure those doors are locked.

=============================================================

How does this mod work?

Smart zombies are set to rarely spawn amongst any zombie types you have set, intending to immerse you within the terrifyingly unpredictable world of the lingering infected minds.

This mod intends to catch you off guard and make the undead rarely unpredictable. In addition, no matter whether you have shamblers, fast shamblers or sprinter zombies set there will always be a rare few that can (and will) open doors. Spooky.

You can change the percentage of smart zombies from the general population, as well as how often it updates, in the sandbox options. It is by default set at 1 out of every 100 zombies.

More smart zombie features may or may not be added in future?

Intended to be used with Lingering Whispers!

=============================================================

Compatibility:

  • Fully compatible with shamblers, fast shamblers and sprinter zombies.

  • Should work fine with existing save games.

  • Singeplayer and multiplayer compatible (I don't play Multiplayer, but it should theoretically be fine).

  • Also works completely fine without Lingering Whispers, it's just recommended alongside it for maximum immersion.

  • It can be expected that any mod that alters zombie spawn rates or behaviour could conflict with this. Let me know if this occurs.

  • INCOMPATIBLE WITH NIGHT SPRINTERS, APPARENTLY. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

hey btw, susceptible is amazing and thank you for it! Makes these perma-death runs really challenging, and I had no idea you were involved in making it until literally right now! Also insurgent is pretty fun too :)

Heya, not sure if this is useful at all but I'll still leave it here.

Was using both of your lingering mods, PLUS night sprinters. Lasted 51 days without any issues, but then sadly died.

Just confirmed *without a doubt*, all 3 mods WERE ACTIVE.
Lingering Reflexes, Lingering Whispers, and Night Sprinters.
51 in-game days of no issues.

BUT

I play permadeath, so I created a new save. After starting a new save, I began getting consistent and indefinite "Not responding" after loading in.

Turned off chunks of 10 mods, eventually found out that it was this mod, and then your description helpfully let me know it was this mod combining with night sprinters that was the problem.

Thank you for that little note, you saved me at LEAST an hour or two of really tedious troubleshooting, and so I felt like I should spend 5 of those saved minutes to leave this comment.

I still love your mod and hope to somehow use it in the future! :sothappy: :LIS_pixel_heart:

I have my server that uses this with CDDA. Only encountered a few zombies able to open doors iirc.
