"I'm playing normal difficulty, and this first boss (episode 3-2) makes for a super hard battle. I've watched many videos of folks fighting this boss and also read that he is actually the hardest boss (which seems weird to throw at you so early). I've restarted this battle about 50 times, and always fail. If I decide to play at the lower difficulty, I think I have to start the game all over again, so I'm hesitating to do that. Sigh, I'll keep trying new tactics for another 50 attempts I guess."

I did finally beat that boss. For me, the hardest part was the zillion minions that endlessly keep coming, and me trying to avoid/handle them while needing to kill the bullet-sponge boss ASAP. The tactic that did work was one I'd tried a few times before, but the main ingredient was "luck". I started the battle by throwing all 4 of my available grenades at the boss right away, and started blasting him with the shotgun. My goal was to finish him ASAP so that gave me a head start (no pun intended). From that point on it was all a scramble, flipping through the window (until the minions started piling in), jumping down a floor, working my way back up, on and on, always trying to focus on boss damage. Toward the end I was using the powerful but slow sniper rifle on him. He finally went down for the last time. Then the "remaining" minions almost killed me before I could get his key and leave (my health was red, and no more healing available. Whew.

The best "recipe" is: gas cylinders+sniper rifle (shoot his head when he stays down on his knee). Yes, he seems very tough but just seems :steamhappy: The matter is in his weak spots

He's pretty difficult, his swing attack does MASSIVE damage, his traps are a HUGE nuisance, and his Insta-kill is fast, deadly, and easy to get caught in. He's the second hardest Chainsaw-Mini-boss in the series right behind El Salvador from RE4 in Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D on 3DS, who in that version had a MASSIVE health buff, and also was fast and every move of his was an instant kill.

Just keep your distance. Use sniper rifle and just keep on the move. It gave me some trouble on Hard as well , but as long as you dont get pinned down and try to tank him you should be fine.
