BunnyHop (BHOP) - Tutorial

Hello guys ! In this guide, i'll try to explain you how to bunnyhop on CS:GO (on servers/maps made for it).

Important notes

This guide was mainly made for bunnyhop on CS:GO, however, since CS:S servers use almost all the same plugins as CS:GO servers, this guide is also valid for bunnyhop on CS:S

First step : Find a good bhop server

Bhop Styles

There's a lot of bhop styles you can play with. Here's a list of them

use the command !styles to show every styles server has to offer.

• Normal/AutoHop : You just have to maintain your spacebar and strafe to move forward.
  
• Half-SideWays (HSW) : Same as normal, but this time, you need to hold W(Z for french) when you move.
  
• W-Only : You'll have to play using only your W key (Z for french).
  
• SideWays (SW) : Moving on the side. Use S and W to move (Z and S for french)
  
• Segmented : Same as the Normal/AutopHop style, but it allows you to put checkpoints anywhere on the map, keeping your time and your speed. Best style to learn how to play a map for exemple.
  
• Tool Assisted Speedrun (TAS) : This style uses differents tools such as strafe hack and timescaling, meaning that any run you do with this is not humanly achievable.

• Scroll/Legit : This one is harder and requires a lot of practice. You have to open your CS:GO console and type : "bind mwheeldown +jump" and "bind mwheelup +jump". You understood, scrolling with your mouse will allows you to jump. Holding the spacebar is useless.

There's a lot of other styles, they are different and customised by every servers you play on. But i will only talk about the main ones here.

Strafing ? what's that?

Strafing is the most important thing in bunnyhop. The strafe is a movement that will allow you to pick up speed while you are in the air.

For a Normal/Autohop run, press D and turn your mouse to the right. You'll earn speed when you're turning. Press A (Q for french) and move your mouse to the left. you'll earn speed too.

Do not move too quickly or too slowly, just try a bit and see if you're gaining speed or not.
Most servers have the command !strafetrainer that will show you whether the speed with which you move your mouse is too fast or too slow.


At the moment you understood what is strafing and how to do it, it's all about training, playing a lot and failing/restarting. its all practice, you wont be good if you don't practice.

Helpful server commands

WARNING! Not all of these commands will work on every servers.

• !showtriggers or !st : Show triggers (things who enables events (tp, fail zones...)
  
• !showplayerclips or !showclips : Show playerclips (invisible walls)
  
• !r : restart your timer
  
• !cp : open checkpoint menu
  
• !recent : shows the 50 most recent server records
  
• !rtv : Rock the vote : vote to change map
  
• !nominate : nominate a map for the rtv
  
• !jhud : See gains and speed
  
• !styles : open styles list (to play different gameplay (tas, segmented...))
  
• !replay : spec the replay bot + open the replay menu
  
• !top : see top100 players who played on the server
  
• !rank : see your personnal rank on the server
  
• !strafetrainer : UI to train strafes
  
• !keys : show the keys you're pressing on
  
• !glock : gives you a glock
  
• !usp : gives you an USP
  
• !b : Bonus
  
• !main : Go back to the main start (leaves bonus)

Good/Known maps to bhop on

Here is my personnal maplist when i need to practise

• bhop_bfur (or bhop_fur bonus) : Strafes practice
  
• bhop_monster_jam : Cool map, many routes possibles
  
• bhop_arcane_v2 : One of the most iconic bunnyhop maps
  
• bhop_badges : hard to speedrun on, but still fun to play
  
• bhop_24 : just about precision and not losing speed
  
• bhop_dimensions : beautiful map, lots of levels
  
• bhop_sourcejump : Short and beautiful map, cool for strafing (a video made by Tony Montana explains how he made the map, which can be helpful if you want to learn mapping).
  
• bhop_ahop_coast : just a level of Half-Life 2, but loved it still
  
• bhop_internetclub : good looking map, few telehops

Usefull binds

Now, you need bindings !

If you want to play scroll/legit or any maps where you need to spin a lot, you'll need binds !

Scroll/Legit binds

• bind mwheeldown +jump
  
• bind mwheelup +jump

Spinning

• Bind mouse5 +left
  
• bind mouse4 +right

Keep in mind that you can choose which key you want to assign to binds.
For example : bind <key> <command>

Server / bhop settings

Servers settings you need to know

Air Acceleration

1'000 AA : Crouching and standing up give same speed amount, most server uses this AA.

Tickrate

Tickrate means how fast is the server going if we want to make it simple. higher TR(TickRate) strafing gives you more velocity, meaning you can get fast easily and quickly.

• 1'000T : mainly used by TASers
  
• 500T : mainly used by TASers
  
• 200T : used for faster records, not much appreciated by players.
  
• 128T : used by almost all CS:GO bhop servers.
  
• 100T : used by every classic CS:S bhop servers.

Velocity ?

In Counter-Strike (In the Source Engine in general), your speed is calculated in Units/seconds

Cheating and how to prevent it.

Yup, you can cheat on bhop

this is obviously not a tutorial on how to do it, because i don't like cheaters.

Cheat types :

• Mouvement Recorder(MMR) : Recoring a run, then play it back and get a good time. Almost undetectable.
  
• StrafeHacking : Allows you to get better strafes to get faster. Easily detectable, even if good players can sometimes get very close to cheaters and get banned too.

BASH 2 (Blacky's Anti Strafe Hack) [github.com]
OryxAC (unmaintained) [github.com]

Do not cheat. Cheating is for loosers. You'll always be better playing legit than cheating.

Note : If you cheat on known CS:S bhop servers, there is a good chance that the server is linked to SourceJump, in which case you will not only be banned from the server, but also from the Sourcejump database.
