SCP: Knightmare Chess

Description
A game of chess.... but with 100+ SCP-inspired cards that can change the flow of the game!

Rules:
Players draw seven cards at the beginning of the game. Players do not draw additional cards during the game, unless specified to by another SCP card. Cards specify when they can be played, and what their effect is. There are many wacky shenanigans!

Alternative Rules Available:
Classic Knightmare: players draw five cards at the beginning of the game. At the end of a player’s turn, if they have less than five cards in hand, they may draw one card. Players may also discard a card at the end of their turn if they wish, before drawing.

Unique Character: at the beginning of the game, reveal the top five cards of the deck. Shuffle and redraw any cards named SCP-001 and SCP-2521. Starting with black, both players choose one of the cards to be their “character”. A player’s character sits faceup next to them on the table. A character card can be played like any other card, though it is not technically considered “in their hand”, and it can never be discarded for any reason. After a character card has been played, it is flipped face down, and can no longer be played until it is flipped faceup. A player can flip it faceup by discarding a card from their hand at the end of one of their turns, but only if they did a standard move that turn.

Custom Deck: before the game begins, both players draft 26 SCP cards into their deck. Only one of the cards drafted by a player may be named “SCP-001”. However, both players may choose to draft an SCP-001 card, in which case, that is legal. Once the game begins, shuffle both players’ drafted decks together to form a 52-card deck. Then play normally (or play one of the other alternative rules), using this 52-card custom deck.
