Trash Talker

Description
I am on an indefinite hiatus from Project Zomboid. Feel free to use my code for future mods, and feel free to update my mods for B42. Please do not reuse their exact names or mod id's to avoid confusion and bugs for B41 players. I can only guarantee my mods worked when used alone before B42 dropped. I will no longer be retesting them when people have conflicts. Thanks for the support over the years.

Trash Talker

Talk trash while you trash some zombies! After all, they did eat everyone you've ever loved!

Adds a new trait that lets you talk trash about your enemies! Because a good braining deserves more celebration!

(Note that this trait will cause you to make noise that can draw zombies, hence its evaluation as a negative trait!)

Details

After loading up the game with this mod for the first time, go check out your Zomboid/Lua folder (in your user directory if you're on Windows) to find TrashTalk.ini and use it to completely customize your trash talking experience! Note that the .ini uses "# " (i.e., a hashtag and a space) in front of each line of trash talk. This is entirely optional; any line with "# " in front of it will throw away the comment symbol and the space before loading the line into the game. The prefix was added to improve the legibility of the .ini. You may freely use single and double-quotes in each line. Also, you may choose to use # in front of some lines (e.g., lines with quotation marks in them), but not others; this will not bother the file reader.

In addition to allowing custom lines of trash talk, this mod offers in-game options! Using Mod Options (another mod on the Steam Workshop), you can adjust your volubility (measured in frequency of trash talking after kills) and your sound range (measured in tiles), as well as enable trash talking on characters who do not have the trait. I have also added an option for automatically "muttering" your trash talk (generating less volume) whenever you are sneaking. Muttered trash talk will appear in lowercase to visually indicate that it is quieter than normal trash talk.

Finally, I have added an option for enabling a context menu that can be used by anyone to talk trash on command in three volumes: mutter, talk, and battlecry. Battlecries will appear in uppercase to indicate their volume; they are audible at triple the usual range, so be careful around hordes! Note that normally spoken trash talk may appear in any case (it will appear exactly as it does in your custom lines file), but the capitalization of normally spoken trash talk does not affect its volume (it simply indicates the player's enthusiasm for braining the undead).

Context menu not fast enough? Shortcuts can be bound in Key Bindings under Trash Talker. They are not bound by default; there are simply too many mods with too many shortcuts for me to decide on ideal defaults for everyone. I bound mine to Keypad 1, 2, and 3.

Server Options

This mod offers several sandbox options. Host can control the min and max values that players can select for range and frequency of speech (volubility), as well as limit access to special trash talk shortcuts (mutters and battlecries), the context menu, the keyboard shortcuts, and sneaky insults (quieter trash talk while crouching).

Requirements

Mod Options is required for access to all in-game options. I will likely make Mod Options a requirement in the future. Please consider getting it now! It's a very useful mod!

Also be aware that each line is processed as an independent thing for your character to randomly say. Multiline statements are not supported.

Like this mod? Feel free to check out my other stuff on the workshop!

No clue what you mean by a random URL. Please feel free to contact me on Discord if you want some help trying to solve any unusual problems. I prefer not to use Workshop comments for long chats.

It does draw the attention of nearby zeds when you talk. But mostly it's intended to be funny. Not meant for super competitive servers, of course.

I am unsure of the limits of the file-reading mechanism in this mod, but you can attempt to write whatever you want in the .ini and see what happens!

Can you insult the Zombies in Chilean Spanish?

Another way to make alternate versions of this mod would be to simply upload TrashTalk.ini variations and tell your users to put them in %UserProfile%/Zomboid/Lua/. If this mod sees them there, it will load them.

Just FYI you could easily require this mod as a basis for variations. Simply overwrite the function that determines people's default lines; if your mod requires this one, nothing else would need to change.

Also, to all fans of this mod and other mods I've made: please check out the new True Music Jukebox; Norby and I are very happy with it and we want you all to enjoy the music!
