SAVVA BAY
A Vanilla Map by Steel

Quick Deets:

  • Vanilla map
  • Boreal theme
  • Mass Transit DLC required

About This Map:

Welcome to Savva Bay! This is a boreal themed map based on the Pacific Northwest. This map features all of my personal favorite things, including a nice inner bay area from the ocean for fishing, multiple rivers, mountainous regions, forested areas, and plenty of flat buildable space for large sprawling cities and industries. I have tried to keep things simple and straightforward while giving vanilla players options for versatility and playability!

Savva is a Russian forename derived from an original Greek name, Sabas, that means “old man” or “grandfather” which I felt fit the vibes of a quaint but established region of the Pacific Northwest that could be located anywhere from Northern California all the way up to Alaska.

General Notes:

The map includes two rail lines, one in the main starting tile and another which can be accessed further south in an abandoned industrial area. I have included significant amounts of every industrial resource, even oil despite there not being much oil in the PNW, as I enjoy being able to build all of the industries with the Industries DLC.

Because it's a boreal PNW map, it must have tons of trees! I have placed about 220k trees which should leave plenty of available usage for the 250k tree limit in the base game.

This map is not a 1:1, but the heightmap is loosely based off of Astoria, Oregon and adjusted and cleaned up to suit for customization, with adjustments to the coastlines, rivers, mountains, the dried gully, and lake for looks and playability. The dried gully/wash is a unique feature in particular.

The main highway connection is a custom vanilla 4-way interchange into the starting tile that wraps around the topography of the hill and rail line a bit for better space utilization.

This is my first published map for Cities:Skylines and I'm super grateful to my Brit building buddy Jakey for helping playtest and the CS Map Makers Discord, particularly Uncle Ron, Sidai, Bringer of Fire, AvoirRev, and Pretstag for their incredible help and feedback on this map project.

Recommended Items:

This is a vanilla map so the only thing required to play is the Mass Transit DLC. However, to get the full value out of this map, I recommend a custom theme and LUT for better looks and one of the 81 or 25 tiles mods to maximize playability.

Recommended Theme: SCT-Homecoming by Raffa
Recommended LUT: Photorealistic by Reaper
Recommended Mods: 81 Tiles or 25 Tiles

Changelog:

No changes yet.

Beautiful map! I edit this and create minimalist version for smaller cities, but really loved.

@MOREOPTIONS This is a Vanilla map, and being a condescending jerk to the guy who made the map really only looks bad on you. Vanilla in cities is considered a map that has no required asset downloads or "one click" collections. Most DLC content when released gives some degree of updates for everyone. Perhaps you should adopt some manners and try making your points again without the insults and stupidity.

@MOREOPTIONS I appreciate your feedback. It seems there's quite a controversy amongst players about the proper definition of vanilla. Curious if you play without any DLC?

@LORDPrometheus I'm sorry to hear that, it sounds like a mod issue. I would recommend un-subbing/re-subbing to your mods and themes and see if that fixes this issue. It's not a map issue.

for some reason the game is not letting me select the recommended themes for the map. They are all loaded but its not letting me use them at all

Funny to see your Quick Deets:

Vanilla map = to NO DLC"S
Boreal theme
Mass Transit DLC required = to DLC as in Chocolate making the map NOT Vanilla. Do you like Vanilla Ice cream? perhaps you do! Adding flavorings, such as chocolate or straw-bury is like adding a DLC to some map! Than adding MOD's would be like a topping or sprinkles.. YES! Thus this map is NOT VANILLA as your Deets express! Nice map by the way.. Might like to edit your DEETS!!!

@kimmie109 you should be able to reach a bit of oil in 9 tiles on the far side close to the little lake and creek. Most of my own city's oil field is within the 9 tile area despite the fact I use the 81 tiles mod (and def recommend it).

When playing only 9 tiles, oil is out of reach or?

@SERENE glad you like it! I've currently got a large metropolis on the map myself and I've enjoyed building on each of those areas as you describe. It's def a very buildable map, if I do sam so myself!

@Mango thanks so much! I've def got a few new ideas in the works. Happy building!
