This mod will no longer be updated as CA has implemented their own solution for Dwarfen shieldwalls.

What It Does

Adds the following two passive abilities to the Dwarfs that behave similarly to Cathay's Defensive Stance:

Dwarfen Shieldwall
Dwarf Warriors, Longbeards, Quarrelers, Thunderers, Rangers, and Bugman's Rangers (shielded variants only)
  • Activates when not moving
  • Provides +10% charge resistance and +5% missile resistance for first 10 seconds
  • Provides +25% charge resistance, +10% missile resistance, and charge reflection afterwards

Gromril-hard
Ironbreakers
  • Activates when not moving
  • Provides +10% charge resistance and +5% missile resistance for first 10 seconds
  • Provides +50% charge resistance, +15% missile resistance, +10 armor, and charge reflection afterwards



Motivations

This mod is the WH3 version of my WH2 mod found here.

In this iteration of the mod, I was inspired by Cathay's Defensive Stance ability for Jade Warriors. With charge reflection added to the game, I also thought this would be a great opportunity to add it to Dwarfen infantry.

Since CA have managed to right this long-standing grudge and finally give Dwarfs silver shields, these units now receive charge and melee resistance instead.



Known Issues

There should be no functional issues, but let me know if something pops up. If you think the buffs should provide different bonuses, I'd love the feedback. The iconography needs some touching up as well. So if you have some pixel art tips, send them my way!

Not updated for a year... well, I guess it still works. As for chorfs melting regular dwarfs, that's lore friendly, when a specific race is tainted by chaos, they are going to win a hypothetical 1v1 against the "clean" version all the time (hence why I think both chorfs and dwarfs should have shield wall and testudo)

Id just buff them overall, since atm Chaos Dwarfs absolutely melt Dwarfs.

But maybe consider changing the effect from stances to oathstones? Read about the last stand of that one dwarfen prince during the great war of the beard and the concept is epic (like that one of beleger)

Maybe add some physical resistance combined with more melee defences. This can may be at the cost of melee attack, which can be reduced with each rank higher. (For example: Dwarf warrior -10, Iran breaker -5 or 0)

For those interested, since Dwarfs will be getting silver shields with the Chorf DLC, I will probably rework this mod to provide different bonuses other than missile deflection. As of yet, I'm not really sure what they'll be, but I do appreciate the suggestions.

@Agraza I feel like charge reflect fits on the Ironbreakers, but not on everyone else.

cool concept, but agree with some that ranged should have less shield and reflection doesn't fit.

perhaps if you worked with the dwarf polearm mod to give that to those?

could they give a tiny leadership radius after 10 seconds? basically only big enough to affect the unit directly adjacent to them? then when they line up they all get a little <3 until the wall fails or moves.

Can you make a varient of this mod that only affects the melee units? having silver shields on ranged units is pretty OP.

I do think it is a bit odd for dwarfen infantry to get charge reflection, which is typically on long polearm wielding infantry to simulate people running into said polearm's pointy end.

Perhaps consider swapping it for expert charge defence, which would allow dawi infantry to take an otherwise devastating charge far better than most factions' infantry?

I like the stationary stat bonus idea, thought of the dwarfs when I first played Cathay.
