UPDATED!!! November 2024

I changed the name in game to Imperial Legionnaires because it fits my head canon better. Any issues that existed should be fixed. If anyone notices any more issues please let me know.

REIKLAND LEGIONNAIRES

The winds of magic were strong the day the Reikland State Troops shifted to a new way of waging war. Some time after the year 2502, shortly after an explosion in the Altdorf Colleges of Magic, the Emperor decreed that Reikland would provide to the Empire new regiments of State Troops. These regiments would be equipped, trained, and maintained by every territory of The Empire, not just Reikland. In just a few short weeks, the first regiments were being trained by the mysterious new comers in the Imperial Palace. Gone are the days of men providing their own equipment, being hurriedly trained, and sent to far off lands to die in their thousands. These new regiments, these... Legionnaires... are disciplined, well drilled, and well equipped. They are prepared to fend off the foul creatures of this world not just for all of Man, but for Sigmar!

Description

Why?
I always loved the idea of full plate hardened battle lines of troops holding the line against the tide of evil. However, base game State Troops are...not equipped to fight hordes of demons. This mod aims to add new units that are late game alternatives to the Empire State Troops. Inherently, it will be somewhat unbalanced due to the fact that the Empire isn't supposed to have heavy infantry like this. However, I will do my best to make sure it isn't too game breaking.

What does this unit mod do?
This mod adds 4 new units to the Empire roster. Specifically in Altdorf. These units can only be recruited in Altdorf after building the Imperial Palace.

These new units have a reskin that includes variation of heads and torsos to ensure that not every unit looks the same. They have pouches, knives, bottles, and little sacks to carry their pay. You won't have to ask yourself where the State Troops carry their personal belongings anymore. (I'm not the only one right?)

Recruitment Cost:
  • 975

Upkeep:
  • 250
Units:
  • Reikland Legionnaires (Swordsmen)
  • Reikland Legionnaires (Greatswords)
  • Reikland Legionnaires (Halberdiers)
  • Reikland Legionnaires (Spearmen)

You can easily reduce the recruitment cost and upkeep by building more armories across The Empire.
  • Blacksmith reduces Cost and Upkeep by 1%
  • Armory reduces Cost and Upkeep by 2%

By building a Blacksmith and Armory in the province of Altdorf, you can also reduce the amount of time it takes to train these new Empire Infantry units. The idea is, the more Blacksmiths making armor, the faster and cheaper you can equip new regiments.

Compatibility
This mod should be compatible with all other mods.
**The only item that has been changed that may cause an issue in some battle altering mods, is that the Reikland Legionnaire (Swordsmen) unit uses a "new" melee weapon. The mod will still work with any battle changes, they just will not affect this specific weapon.**

Note
If anyone has any suggestions or balance issues please let me know. Feedback is welcome!

I have made an Officers and Banners Mod for this mod for my personal use but it has dependencies on other mods. If there is enough interest I will upload it as a secondary mod for everyone.

Also let me know if there are any bugs.

@Gauntlet If I am remembering correctly I also locked it to Karl Franz faction.

Doesn't work for Gelt sadly. IE, the Imperial Palace building does not unlock recruitment.

Thank you for the great mod. I definitely second the gold armor variant idea!

Very cool! As a suggestion, it seems to me Balthasar Gelt doesn't have many unique units... Maybe these would also look good in gold? ;)

The mod is updated and should be working as intended now. Sorry it took so long for me to get to it, life is nuts. May thy Imperial Legionnaires hold the line in glorious death.
