How To Cook Food In DayZ

Starting Note

This guide will assume you already have food to cook and a fire, If you do not know how to craft a fire please visit this guide first https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2853626602

Roasting on a stick

You will need: A long stick or sharpened long stick and a knife

Combine a long stick and a knife to create a “sharpened stick”. Combine the sharpened stick with the meat, stand close to the fire until you see the prompt to “Roast”, hold the left mouse button, the meat will be cooked once the action is finished!

Oven or fireplace

You will need: House with an oven or a fireplace

To bake with an oven or fireplace you will need to stand close to the lit oven or fireplace then drag the meat into the cooking or smoking slots. Press Tab and stand close to the oven to keep checking the readiness of the meat, being careful that your character doesn’t get too hot! Once the meat is fully cooked it will be a golden brown colour and will show as “baked”, remove the meat.

Cooking Stand

you will need: Short Stick, Long stick, pot (Optional: Water)

First combine a long stick and a short stick, cycle through the craftable options using your mouse scroll wheel until you see “craft cooking stand”. After crafting the cooking stand, stand close to the fire and place it. Once placed hold the pot in your hand, look at the cooking stand until you see an option to “attach”. Place the meat in the inventory of the pot .Remove the meat once it shows as fully cooked! Optional: To have boiled meat you would combine the pot with a water source to fill it with water before placing it on the cooking stand.

Gas stove

You will need Gas stove, Gas canister and a pot

First combine the gas stove and the gas canister, drop the gas stove in the vicinity and put the food inside the pots inventory, look at the gas stove and click “switch on” when you see the prompt. Remove the food once cooked.

If you’re stuck
Make sure all items are in good enough condition, if any of the items show as “Ruined” they are no longer useable. If the gas canister is empty it can no longer fuel the gas stove, the white line beneath the name and description of the gas canister will indicate how much fuel is inside
