Buckets o' Blood!

Description
Blood, you say? Certainly, Sir!

Bathe the battlefield in the blood of your enemies! Fun for all the family!

*** V4.02 RELEASED! **********
Compatibility update to work with patch 3.0. Note I've had to drop legacy versions from the archive as they won't work following the 3.0 update and I don't have time to fix them right now. This version should give you everything you need.
****************************

This mod reworks various aspects of the Blood for the Blood God III DLC to make blood more visceral and quite frankly excessive in the best possible way to fully support immersion in the Warhammer battle fantasy.

In terms of details, the mod adds a couple of blood textures and mixes up the existing blood vfx to basically give more of everything and make battles feel truly visceral.

I wanted to give the feeling of drenching the battlefield in blood gradually and have the blood stay long enough that the player can observe the carnage they've wrought. I also wanted the squirts, spurts and spills to be cranked up to add to the madness of battle.

Performance-wise the mod has a moderate impact in very large battles, ie more than 2 v 2 full stack battles. It's not too bad though. If performance is an issue try turning down your vfx settings in game.

NOTE - Turn the graphical VFX setting up to max to get the full intended effect. The game scales back blood FX as this setting is lowered.

Also, remember to tweak the decal and effect size to preference in the in-game settings.

I am aware of flickering blood textures, which cannot be avoided and affects all decals, and is much more noticeable in the base blood pack - it's a z-fighting engine issue which has been present in a couple of CA games now and so far I haven't been able to completely mitigate it. I'm hopeful this mod makes the issue a bit less noticeable or obvious.

OPTIONAL ALTERNATE VERSIONS:

Alternate versions can be downloaded from here:

Previous versions have been removed as they no longer work with update 3.0 and I can't be bothered going back to fix them all. Download the zip, select which version you want and drop the corresponding files into:

<your_steam_path>\steamapps\workshop\content\1142710\2853983770\

Replace the existing files and you're good to go! Enjoy!

VERSION DIFFERENCES:

V4.02

Compatibility update to let the mod play with update 3.0.

V4.00

All versions have the new hit effects implemented. They are slightly smaller and lighter in standard, optimised and permanent versions. Excessive has slightly more and larger emitters in line with the over the top nature of this version. Decals aren't changed from V3.

V3.00

Focused on optimisation and performance improvements whilst attempting to retain graphical fidelity. After much testing I have found a relative sweet spot. Durations have had to be sacrificed somewhat to keep everything running well, however given that most battles rarely last longer than 10 minutes it shouldn't make a huge difference.

Optimised version should be almost on par with the base blood pack now.

In detailed testing the costs of each version (over base blood pack) in intense situations are:

Optimised - 1-2fps
Standard - 3-4fps
Excessive - 6-7fps
Permanent - 18fps(!)

Your mileage may vary but this is about the best performance we can expect for the effects.

V2.00

Excessive Version
- New textures
- Long decal lifetimes (up to 50 minutes)
- Full effects

Standard Version
- New textures
- Moderate decal lifetimes (up to 10 minutes)
- Full effects

Optimised Version
- New textures
- Reduced decal lifetimes (up to 5 minutes)
- Some decal spawns reduced

---

V1.00

Permanent Stains Version
Same as the base version, except ground spray stains won't despawn (the circular puddles still will after a few mins). Highest performance impact, particularly in long or large battles where performance will degrade over time. Definitely favours more cinematic presentation at the cost of performance. Great fun to throw on, remove the UI and then watch 2 massive AI armies have at each other!

Standard Version
This is the version you get when you hit the subscribe button. It's got all the effects, decals last 10 minutes for the ground sprays, puddles last about 3 mins. Can bog down in intense fights, leans on quality over performance.

Balanced Version
Slightly reduced number of blood spawns per enemy hit, slightly reduced decal despawn time. Balances decal duration with performance whilst retaining pretty much all of the effects so that the game doesn't get bogged down, even in heavy or intense battles.

Performance Version
Lighter version of the mod, further reduced number of blood spawns and length of time. Negligible performance impact. Mainly for those who want a version that's a bit toned down and won't impact performance. All effects are still here, there's just less of them and they despawn quicker.

Apparently, regarding the issue on blood and flicker:

I found a way for myself to avoid flickering by using this https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=3039315942 and set 70/10 blood in the game settings so you will have new blood textures from the mod and minimal flicker it is extremely inconspicuous, basically you will follow the fight and you won't see anything

I know its not THIS blood mod, which I really enjoy but until its resolved then that's the best method I can find....Maybe this will help the author find a fix somehow...

Is there a way to make blood last longer on ground using RPFM @vahndaar

It works but a lot of the initial blood decals that activate when a unit is killed bugs out and begins to flicker.
