Nuclear Material Storage (For Cask Type 91)

Description
Inspired by the HI-STORE CISF[holtecinternational.com] project in the United States, this is a mid- to long-term storage area for nuclear materials.

The area is capable of storing up to 510 tons of nuclear waste, equivalent to the waste output of a twin-reactor power plant running at maximum capacity for 30 years.

Also included is a transfer facility, which is used to repackage Cask Type B containers into Cask Type 91 containers. These new casks require specialized vehicles for transport. You can find such vehicles at Workshop Item 2850062854.

Caution! This specialized storage building should only be loaded with Cask Type 91 containers! Do not use the vanilla Cask Type B!

Using the building mirroring functionality with this mod breaks its storage layout! Do not mirror this building!

How to Use This Mod

  1. Download/subscribe to Cask Type 91 (and Transport Vehicles) (Workshop Item 2850062854)
  2. Under Factory buildings, build the Nuclear Container Transfer Facility.
  3. Open the details window for the Nuclear Container Container Facility, and set the container type to Cask Type 91.
  4. Under Storage buildings, build the Nuclear Material Storage (For Cask Type 91).
  5. At a road vehicle depot or a vehicle factory, obtain a Cask Type 91 Mover. Order it to load vehicles/containers from the Nuclear Container Transfer Facility, and unload vehicles/containers to the Nuclear Material Storage (For Cask Type 91).

If you need to convert your materials back to Cask Type B, build another Nuclear Container Transfer Facility and set its container to Cask Type B. Cask Type 91 Movers can be used to return stored containers back to the Facility.

(The above instructions were written for version 0.8.7.12)

@ adamerso I'm happy to hear that you liked watching it, and that it's otherwise working well for you. This mod was a nightmare to model and code!

@ adamerso That's very odd indeed! It does look to be off by a factor of about 1.5. (Since the storage is tuned to store 30 years' worth of the largest vanilla plant, it should be able to store 15 years' worth of a plant twice as productive.)

In my previous tests, the math corresponded to the actual waste output, but there is indeed more waste output now.

I'll increase the storage capacity of the Cask Type 91 container to 0.85 tons per container to compensate. Given the output of the bigger modded plant, that should increase the time-to-maximum-capacity from about 10 years to about 15 years and 3 months.

(I have no idea if your existing vehicles will update with this change; I've found changes to mods in existing saves to be... inconsistent.)

however I really enjoyed looking at it when filling up 😊

I had to leave my republic becoause of low FPS with over 350k of people's (didn't knew, that I should lower people's visibility in GPU options to lower cpu xD) so I cannot say if it was fully loaded after 10years,but I'm certain about that, it was around 1/3 full after 3ingame years (however I didn't write down exact day, only year :))
adamerso Apr 25 @ 5:47am
daily output was around twice as vanilla plant. Of course I was using Cask Type 91,as recommended :) What's worth noticing, I was trying what is more profitable - exporting nuclear fuel or exporting power, so my plant was 100% loaded all the time :( I think, that was the reason of such quick fulfillment of storage 😉

@ adamerso What is the daily waste output of the modded plant?

If you're using Cask Type 91 as specified, this storage can handle a little over 500 tons of nuclear waste. At 0.04 tons per day, that's 12750 days', or a little under 35 years', worth.

If you're using the vanilla casks, the storage capacity is much less.

>510 tons of nuclear waste, equivalent to the waste output of a twin-reactor power plant running at maximum capacity for 30 years.
I was so surprised by fulling it, that I've even write down year of building it :) And in my case it is about 1/3 full after 3ingame years.... :( (modded powerplant, however it was consuming less than two times as vanilla one)

I have It should be bigger, however that's still very nice mod :)

@Zyx Abacab thanks for the answer, but unfortunately I am not into coding at all. P.S.: when the storage burned down all my nuclear waste stored there was gone too - without any radiation (good for my game, bad for roleplaying ... it should have been a nuclear desaster!)
Zyx Abacab  [author] Dec 7, 2022 @ 5:23pm
@ ekesandras2000 I'm not sure how that's happening. The SMOKEPOINTCHANCE of this building is set to 0, which should entirely disable fires. I can't replicate this issue; nor have I seen fires in other buildings with this value set to 0.

Modding for WR:SR is a clunky hassle, as there is a dearth of online documentation. Outside of three outdated and incomplete reference guides on Steam, and rambling, fragmented discussions on Discord, there's not a lot to go on.

This mod is open-source, so if you have a fix, feel free to send me a patch; or fork the mod and fix it yourself.

OMG, it is flamable. My nuclear waste storage burned down!
