About this Mod

This is a small, lightweight patch to tweak Call of Cthulhu - Cosmic Horrors and if present, Call of Cthulhu - Cults. Mainly it patches leathers to be actually useful. Why? Well you'd think the hide of an interstellar star vampire would be tougher and higher quality than birdleather or guinea pig fur, but for some reason it's not. All it has, is a decent sale value, because Deep one hides are in high demand to make towels I guess...

Jokes aside, whenever I'm facing an eldritch monstrosity, straight out of a nightmare, and manage to kill it, I'd asume the hide and scales of such monsters would be priceless resources. But apparently not. Sure you can sell them or make a bedroll out of them, but it annoys me. The same way it would annoy me to kill a legendary dragon without being able to make an epic piece of armour out of it's scales and hide, to commemorate this feat. Granted, as far as I'm aware, there are little to no mentions of tanning cosmic horror's hides in Lovecraft's works, but Byakhees and Star Vampires can cross the vacuum of space, and deep ones sleep in the abyss since eons... You might disagree with me, but I like me some epic loot after an epic fight.

Upon demand, I have also patched the ROM cosmic horror hidden faction to be Industrial Tech level for usecases with Ignorance is Bliss mod. Demand was for Spacer-era, but I felt most base ROM mods expect early industrial tech level as in Lovecraft's literature. Hence my choice to put it on Industrial. I might add a slider option later on if I figure out how to do that.

NEW! you can now use this patch with Cosmic Horrors Xml Edition instead of the base Cosmic Horror mod by Jecrell.

It's MiGo chitinous matter. Default values are actually the same values as rimworld default leather. lowered insulation, for added protection.

Cthonians are powerful creatures, but I nerfed their marketvalue a bit. This leather has very high blunt resistance, and very low sharp resist. Might sound interesting to make unique choices... but in reality, no sharp resist makes it practically useless aside from making furniture.

Being spawns of Cthulhu, you'd expect them to have very strong and valuable hides compared to the other horrors, but it isn't so by default. I tried upping it's quality to be on-par with thrumbo leather (a tad less sharp resist, and a tad more blunt resist.)
Also increased value to 6 because 3.5 was laughable.

Perfect example of the reason why I made this patch. Dark young aren't the toughest horrors out there by far, but their leather is less protective than birdleather and is more than twice as valuable as Cthulhid leather...

Deep ones again have laughably bad leather, but for some reason it's very expensive. Sure it's fish-skin, but I made it a tad less powerful as Cthulhid leather,
and far less insulating... it's fishy skin afterall.

Star vampires are fearsome things that live in the vacuum of space... as such i buffed their hides to be on par with deep ones, but they also give better insulation and have added heat armor (fire).

In general, most leathers have been buffed to be competitive use-cases even compared to other mods, whilst hardly surpassing Thrumbofur. Values have been equalized a bit, but all around been nerfed.

@Johny Macabre I agree it's pretty silly. I just updated the about.xml with the 1.5 tag to answer I request in the comment section. But yeah, I wouldn't recommend using this patch given that the main mod isn't updated and likely never will be.

Um, how is this patch for 1.5 when Cosmic Horrors is abandoned at 1.4 and doesn't function on 1.5?

@TurtleShroom: Lovecraft fans are starving, everything you can do would be great.

Even a mod that brings the Horrors back as wild animals, or the clothing would be great.

Disconcerting. Sadly, I don't know any C-Sharp, but the rest of the Mod could be decoupled, albeit with great difficulty. For the spawning Events to work, I'd need someone to help me with C-Sharp.

The Cosmic Horror mod unfortunately still relies on JecsTools, a notoriously TPS-heavy and unoptimized bit of code- And Jec themselves has been MIA from Rimworld modding for months now. Just Rimworld, mind you, they've been active playing other games and such at a normal pace, but they've completely abandoned their workshop content by the look of it.

You are correct. Neither the Factions nor the Cthulhu Mod got updated, which is insane to me, because it could have full "Anomaly" support.

@TurtleShroom there you go :) didn't realy need updating tbh. I was planning to update if (and when) the cosmic horror mod gets updated. Afaik it never got updated to 1.5

Do you plan on updating this Mod? I find it really useful in my game.
