Caproni Ca.42 by Uncle T

Description
My version of the quite bonkers Italian WW1 bomber Caproni Ca.42 triplane.

It carries 12 100 lb bombs in the bomb nacelle and 18 more on the outside of it.

It's armed with 1 machine gun in the nose and 1 each in the engine nacelles.

There were several confugurations of the centre nacelle with the pilot/-s and front gunner, the most usual being a 5-man crew with pilot and co-pilot side by side, but for bulding convenience (Bob is a chunky boi) I went with the less common 4-man crew with a single pilot seat configuration.

NOTE!
As expected it flies like a brick with a design like this combined with the new "improved" fluid dynamics system. I've spent 8+ hours trying to make it fly at least not completely sh*tty to no avail. It goes straight well-ish, but if you try to turn BE VERY SLOW AND DELIBERATE or you will lose all airspeed and simply fall out of the sky.
The top speed should be about 140-150 kph but it must be WAY too high, mostly after dropping the bombs which apparently creat more drag than the plane itself *sigh*, since the engine power is needed to get off the ground and possibly maintian some speed when turning.

Alt controls to "fly".
W/S: Variable throttle.
S: Ground brake.
A/D: Ground steering/yaw.
Up/Down arrow: Pitch.
Left/Right arrow: "Roll" *
Fire action 1/Num 1: Bombs. **
Hazard lights/K: Fire in engine 1!
Headlights/L: Fire in engine 2!

* The absolutely ridiculous airspeed loss when using any control surface makes starting a roll possible but after a second or two the plane has lost so much speed it's impossible to even roll back since the control surfaces becone basically useless at lower speeds. This "feature" was quite broken alreeady in 1.1.3 but it's SO much worse in 1.2.

** Bombs are released in sequence and take about 2.5 seconds to all drop.

Feel free to edit, but if you re-upload publically in any way please acknowledge the original creation and creator.

Have fun falling out of the sky!

Another tip! One approach to turning is to just roll about 15 degrees and let the plane turn by itself while gently adjusting keeping the nose down enough to maintain airspeed. Just start getting out of the roll well in advance, nose still down, since it's a sunofbich to get out of again.

Thanks! It's completely insane but very cool. 😎

damn thats a good looking plane

I might be scaring people off the plane with my tales of woe and poor flying capabilities but it does fly, one just has to be very gentle and patient and take ones time gaining some speed and altitude and turn slowly while closely monitoring ones speed (and try to keep up with whatever flight characteristics the game deems appropriate on this particular spawn) . So a bit like flying one of

Man this game is broken. The plane behaves one way on first spawn, then on each consecutive re-spawn it beahves in a very different manner, until I go into the workshop, change NOTHING and spawn it , then it behaves like the first spawn again until I re-spawn it. FFS!!!! 😡

Added fire in the engines.

TIP! Use the rudders to turn rather than the usual roll-and-pitch method. It's a bit wonky but the airspeed loss is less and it's easier to maintain some semblance of control.

"Fly", and especially turn, at your own risk. A lot of patience is needed. 😁
