If you're here, you probably have noticed that the link provided in the Kickstarter post linked in the other guide is dead, or else are confused about how to install the patch, or else started without the patch and are still confused. There's lots of posts on the Steam forums in the community hub being confused about this, so this guide is to set the record straight on how to LEGALLY acquire the full content of the game.

So here's how you do it.

  • First, the patch is located at the very bottom of the page, at this link[jastusa.com], unless it's been moved (again), in which case I'll update this guide. Unless I've died in the intervening period, in which case someone else will make a new guide.
  • Install the patch. To do this just drag the contents of the patch folder into the game files folder. If you're not sure where that folder is, right click on the game's name on Steam, click properties, click "local files" and click "browse". It will take you right there.

DO NOT START THE GAME UNPATCHED, save files from the unpatched/all ages version are not compatible. However, if you mistakenly do this, it's no huge deal: go to the game files folder, and delete

  • the file BGI.gdb, which is like the "persistent" file for renpy games
  • (DO NOT CONFUSE THIS WITH BGI.EXE, THAT IS THE APPLICATION EXECUTABLE ITSELF, DELETING THAT WILL RENDER THE GAME UNLAUNCHABLE)
  • the Userdata folder, this contains your save files

When the game is restarted, hopefully now patched, it will recreate those folders and files appropriately and things will work normally.

That's it. That's all you need to do to install the patch. LEGALLY.

If it worked, you should see these disclaimer screens when launching the game, and the start menu subtitle will be in German:

Questions
The patch isn't working/my saves aren't loading!

I don't know what to tell you, this is how you're supposed to do it, safely and legally, and with no potential for technical trouble.

If you're really having serious intractable technical issues with the patch and/or your saves, then, as a last resort, a strong recommendation may be to simply file for a refund from Valve if you're able to, and repurchase the game, sold prepatched, from the JAST USA store[jastusa.com]. If that version doesn't work, the problem may be with your PC, and you should seek technical support elsewhere.

I need help with an unofficial patch!

That's illegal. We cannot provide help with any unofficial patches here. It's against the rules. You'll probably get VAC banned for cheating, somehow, or banned from the Steam forums for talking openly about modifying the content of the singleplayer game that *you bought*, which is obviously justified because it's the publisher's intellectual property. If you choose to use any such illegal, pirate modifications, you do so at your own risk, and should not attempt to seek support from Frontwing or Valve for any problems caused by such modifications.

As a general rule, if you are having technical trouble with any modified game, or even any game, period, be it Subahibi or Skyrim or Sonic Adventure DX, a good idea is to revert the game back to its default state and start over. On Steam, you can do this by right clicking on the game's name, clicking "Properties," going to "Local Files" and clicking "verify integrity of game files." If that doesn't work, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

This is LEGAL, requires NO USE OF MODS OR PIRACY, and is a COMPLETELY NORMAL FUNCTIONALITY PROVIDED BY THE VANILLA, UNMODIFIED STEAM CLIENT.

How do I restore cut content/missing voices?

That requires the use of piracy, and is therefore illegal, and may get you banned from Steam if you tell people about doing that anywhere near here. Don't do this. It is illegal. Laws and intellectual property are good things, and must be forever respected so that the publishers can profit, legally, from the game you already bought that did not contain the content they weren't selling. Legally.

Where can I read the epilogue, Knockin' on Heaven's Door?

For those unfamiliar, Knockin' on Heaven's Door is an epilogue chapter for Subahibi released with the Japanese only "Full Voice HD Edition" which came out on July 20th, 2018.

At this time, no plans to officially release this chapter in English have been announced. It is not included with the official English release. If you want to read this chapter, you have one option:

Learn Japanese, buy the Full Voice HD Edition from KeroQ in Japan, and read it, in Japanese.

That is all. You have no other options. If there were any other options, such as a fan translation patch (which definitely does not exist), they would be illegal, and should not be sought out, because it's morally wrong and you will harm the publishers by pirating the content that they aren't selling. Legally. You should not search for any such nonexistent translation. You should not pirate games. You should not mod games, you should not make unofficial patches for games, and you should not play the games you bought in any manner other than that intended by the intellectual property rights holders in your jurisdiction. All of these things are illegal, and also very rude.

Also, stop using anime screenshots as your social media profile pictures. That's also illegal, and is also depriving the rights holders of the anime character whomst you kin, of their profit, uhhh, somehow. It's rude, it's illegal, it's piracy, it's unauthorized distribution, and just because everyone does it doesn't make it okay, so don't do it.

Live Happily Legally!

Since this kind of stuff usually ends up forgotten here is my contribution.

To find the link, one option is to use the {LINK REMOVED} with the now broken link, which will load the history of saved versions of that website on different timestamps, the Wayback Machine is kinda unstable at times but it does the job.

I downloaded and applied the patch using the page from Dec. 27 - 2021 (Got the german description adn everything), the patch size is 136MB~ and it's probably going to fail multiple times, but its either that or going into a shadier site.

Direct download link: {LINK REMOVED} (probably going to be censored by Steam but anyways)
