This Guide Is Outdated, They're Making it Way Easier to Buy.
Keeping this up for archival purposes, I guess.
So, You Wanna Buy HITMAN 3, Huh?
Because you’re a normal human being who doesn’t commit the pricing options of purchasing a game to memory, you’ll most likely need a guide on what all these bundles and packages mean when buying HITMAN 3.

This web of unnecessary confusion and entanglement was created because Io Interactive, the creators of hit game Ninjabread Man, decided to split up the individual environments of the World of Assassination trilogy to satiate their thirst for an episodic content delivery method (which was abandoned after 2016) and is now something that we're still paying for to this day, LITERALLY!

So here's a handy (over-complicated) guide to explain the needlessly headache-inducing jargon that IoI has plastered on their storefront.

(Also, if you're thinking of buying this game and it's not on sale, just wait. It goes on sale at least once during each seasonal sale, so I'd just hold off honestly).
"Download HITMAN 3 Demo"

This is the "demo" of HITMAN 3, which actually is derived from the totally-the-same-thing "HITMAN 3 - Free Starter Pack" on Epic Games. The "free starter pack" on Epic Games' store grants the training mission and the ability to import levels from the previous World of Assassination titles (HITMAN 1 and HITMAN 2). The steam version reportedly didn't recognize people's importable locations from the previous titles at launch, but I'm guessing it got fixed in a patch or something. Bottom line: this only includes a training level for people who haven't bought anything else (which would be a waste of a whopping 65GB download in my opinion.)

"Buy HITMAN 3 Standard Edition"

This is where we actually purchase the game, took us long enough! The basic version of the game, costing $59.99, includes 6 locations and their corresponding story missions, as well as challenges (the big checker board form Kirby Air Ride) and a few escalation missions (you'll get sick of them quick).

These 6 locations are, in order:

  1. Dubai, United Arab Emirates (Mission: On Top of the World)

  2. Dartmoor, England (Mission: Death in the Family, as well as a unique escalation.)

  3. Berlin, Germany (Mission: Apex Predator)

  4. Chongqing, China (Mission: End of an Era)

  5. Mendoza, Argentina (Mission: The Farewell)

  6. Carpathian Mountains, Romania (Mission: Untouchable)

These locations are part of the base HITMAN 3 experience, and consist of the content present at the game's launch.
"Buy HITMAN 3 Deluxe Edition" / "Buy HITMAN 3 Deluxe Pack"

The deluxe edition of HITMAN 3 is just downright awful in my opinion, costing an additional 30 bucks (From $59.99 to a criminal $89.99, or an additional $5.00 if you buy the deluxe pack and the standard edition separately). This wouldn't be so bad if there was a decent amount of content in store for you, but alas, there isn't.

The deluxe pack of HITMAN 3 (which can be purchased separately in the depths of the "CONTENT FOR THIS GAME" section if you decided to buy it later for whatever reason) includes:

  1. More Escalations (Ugh)
  2. Deluxe Suits (They're whatever, but locked BEHIND escalations.)
  3. Trinity Pack (This is a terrible bonus, it provides you three pistols (colored white, red and black respectively) that are silverballer downgrades and three matching monochromatic suits, like they didn't even try.)
  4. Digital Soundtracks (To be expected, I guess.)
  5. The World of HITMAN Digital Book (First cool thing in the bundle, it's digital but cool nonetheless.)
  6. Director's Commentary for all the story missions (Pretty cool as well.)

Overall, I would feel really bad if someone paid full price on this. I personally purchased it on discount, which is the best thing to do. It's still not 100% worth it, but if you MUST collect everything, then waiting for a sale is your best bet.
"Buy HITMAN Trilogy"

This is, according to IoI on the HITMAN 3 store page, a bundle that's "Perfect for new players!"
I think the base $100.00 price tag may beg to differ, but hey, that's just me.

With this bundle you get everything included within the Standard Edition of the game. alongside the levels included within the "Standard Editions" of both HITMAN 1 and HITMAN 2.

For a recap, these locations (and their respective missions) are:

HITMAN 1
  1. Paris, France (Mission: The Showstopper)

  2. Sapienza, Italy (Mission: World of Tomorrow)

  3. Marrakesh, Morocco (Mission: A Gilded Cage)

  4. Bangkok, Thailand (Mission: Club 27)

  5. Colorado, USA (Mission: Freedom Fighters)

  6. Hokkaido, Japan (Mission: Situs Inversus)

(There are other side missions here and there that were released for free during HITMAN 1's life cycle, but they aren't very notable.)

HITMAN 2
  1. Hawke's Bay, New Zealand (Mission: Nightcall)

  2. Miami, USA (Mission: The Finish Line)

  3. Santa Fortuna, Colombia (Mission: Three-Headed Serpent)

  4. Mumbai, India (Mission: Chasing a Ghost)

  5. Whittleton Creek, USA (Mission: Another Life)

  6. Isle of Sgáli, North Atlantic (Mission: The Ark Society)

(There are other side missions here and there that were released for free during HITMAN 2's life cycle, but they aren't very notable.)

There are two whole locations that are omitted from this pack that are part of special additions of HITMAN 2:

Omitted
  1. New York, USA (Mission: Golden Handshake)

  2. Haven Island, Maldives (Mission: The Last Resort)

Get this if you want the basic, incomplete HITMAN World of Assassination trilogy experience (aka, the game with a hefty amount of the fat trimmed off) for 10 dollars more than the extortionate deluxe edition.
"Buy HITMAN Trilogy Premium Add-Ons Bundle"

This is where ♥♥♥♥ goes down.

Why hello, sucker loyal customer! Do you want to tack on ANOTHER $60 after putting a second mortgage on your house to pay for the HITMAN trilogy? Well, have you come to the right place!

This bundle from hell gets you three pieces of DLC that don't come with the HITMAN Trilogy pack, meaning that getting both this and the HITMAN 3 Trilogy Pack, and the Seven Deadly Sins pack (which I'll get into) will give you the COMPLETE WORLD OF ASSASSINATION TRILOGY, as well as a migraine and a bill for nearly $200.

This stupid ass bundle includes:

  1. HITMAN 3 Access Pass: HITMAN 2 Expansion (just saying that made me throw up in my mouth)

  2. HITMAN 3 Access Pass: HITMAN 1 GOTY Upgrade (see the previous)

  3. HITMAN 3 - Deluxe Pack

Here's what this means:

  1. The HITMAN 3 Access Pass: HITMAN 2 Expansion is the same content that is included with HITMAN 2's Expansion Pass DLC (Getting you the Bank New York location and the Haven Island location.) If you already bought the HITMAN 2 Expansion Pass OR Gold Edition, you DON'T need this. New players, this WILL NOT give you the base game locations of HITMAN 2 - only HITMAN 2's DLC ones.

  2. The HITMAN 3 Access Pass: HITMAN 1 GOTY Upgrade is the same content in the HITMAN Game of the Year UPGRADE, NOT THE GOTY EDITION (the GOTY edition for HITMAN 1 gives you the original version including the new content, while the upgrade only gives you the Patient Zero campaign and other goodies, but none of the locations). If you already bought the Game of the Year UPGRADE for HITMAN 1, you DON'T need this. New players, THIS WILL ONLY GIVE YOU THE PATIENT ZERO CAMPAIGN (and a few items / costumes) IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE HITMAN 1 LOCATIONS IN HITMAN 3 - the HITMAN 1 locations MUST HAVE BEEN PURCHASED OR OBTAINED by either obtaining the Trilogy pack or by importing the HITMAN 1 locations into HITMAN 3.

  3. You DON'T need to buy the Deluxe pack if you're buying this.
"Buy HITMAN 3: Seven Deadly Sins Collection"

Rant Warning

Don't buy this unless you want EVERY piece of DLC. Otherwise, you're getting scammed out of 30 bucks. It includes 7 ESCALATIONS (aren't you just so sick of them by now), cosmetic unlockables for each one that are just kinda whatever, and that's it.

Here are the escalations in order:

  1. Act 1: Greed (Dubai: Pretty bland, just kill random targets and pay for items with the coins the targets drop).

  2. Act 2: Pride (Chongqing: Shallow, pick either the "easy" method and disappoint the demon or choose the "harder" option and get "handsomely" "rewarded".)

  3. Act 3: Sloth (Dartmoor: This one is slow as sin, makes sense but really isn't interesting in the slightest.)

  4. Act 4: Lust (Berlin: This one sucks the most out of them all. It's a one-level escalation (which isn't much of an escalation) and tasks you with finding 7 randomized safes across the map, and you also need to get 7 keys. A scavenger hunt where you need to get 14 items to know which person to give the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bouquet to. 0/10.)

  5. Act 5: Gluttony (Chongqing: Only somewhat decent one, I enjoyed the idea of the gimmick, that's all I can really say.)

  6. Act 6: Envy (Mendoza: Kill conditions sink the already sinking ship, and the cosmetics suck a big one.)

  7. Act 7: Wrath (A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wave shooter... it's terrible!)

Don't buy it, unless you're allergic to saving money (so that's why I'm sneezing...).
"Buy HITMAN 3 Access Pass: HITMAN 2 Gold"

This one isn't super confusing, but just make sure you follow along.

The HITMAN 3 Access Pass: HITMAN 2 Gold gives you:

  • HITMAN 3 Access Pass: HITMAN 2 Standard

  • HITMAN 3 Access Pass: HITMAN 2 Expansion

This means that, if you don't have any HITMAN 2 content at all, you should buy this pack if you want the complete level set of HITMAN 2.
TL:DR
Dear God, that's confusing. Basically, I don't recommend buying everything separately.

For new players wanting to buy the entire game from scratch: wait for a sale and buy the HITMAN Trilogy Pack, HITMAN Trilogy Premium Add-Ons Bundle, and the Seven Deadly Sins pack to get the complete game package. That's the way to experience the entire game, even if I loathe the Seven Deadly Sins pack (you don't have to buy it, but if you want EVERY piece of DLC, than there you go).

For people who own the complete versions of HITMAN 1 (GOTY Edition) and HITMAN 2 (Gold Edition) who want to buy HITMAN 3 (or people who own all locations in HITMAN 2 without HITMAN 1): All you need to do is buy whatever version of HITMAN 3 suits you the best, and import your locations from the previous games.

For people who have the base versions of HITMAN 1 and HITMAN 2 and want everything, buy the vanilla HITMAN 3 Game (Deadly Sins optional) and the Trilogy Premium Add-Ons Bundle, then import all your locations from the previous games.

For people who own the original HITMAN 1 (GOTY edition) and want the complete package: Buy HITMAN 3 Deluxe Edition (Deadly Sins optional) and the HITMAN 3 Access Pass: HITMAN 2 Gold, and import your locations from the previous games.

For people who own HITMAN 2 (Gold Edition) and want the complete package: Buy HITMAN 3 Deluxe Edition (Deadly Sins optional) and the HITMAN 3 Access Pass: HITMAN 1 GOTY Edition, and import your locations from the previous games.

For any other scenarios, make sure you can see all the DLCs on the store page and try to mix-and-match based on what you know. Ask questions in the comments if I can clear anything up.

If you want to know what content you'll specifically be getting with each pack, down to the escalation, read this more complicated guide I found after I made this one: Here

Thanks for reading, and I hope I was able to help. Cheers!

Buying the Hitman games should be an escalation contract in itself
Silence Dec 22, 2022 @ 6:11am
i'm pretty sure i wasted about 500$ on this game.

It's crazy how guides like this are needed

People shouldn't have to read a guide or a flowchart just to buy a game
Devil Daughter Aug 30, 2022 @ 5:58pm
This is kind of useless, it just repeats what's on the store page and doesn't even tell you what you get for owning the previous games. Following this you could end up buying things you would get for free.

Here's a better guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2750279200

You know what, I'm good, I don't think I want this anymore.

This Hitman reboot series is a big damn mess because of this... I *just* purchased Hitman 3, but the Hitman 1 and 2 levels (both games which I separately own with full expansions) didn't show up in the Steam DLC menu after pausing the first installation, which was scary. Guess I'll have to run the game for the first time to get them imported or something.
