She was named after Austria-Hungary's Rear Admiral Horthy Miklós
---Early Life---
SMS Horthy Miklós was launched in the fall of 1914.On her first war patrol she hitted an Italian mine and she needed to be repaired. This putted her out of action for the majority of WW1 and when her repaires were finally finished the war she was built for was over and the country that she supposed to serve was in ruins.
---Limbo---
After the Great War she was seized by the Entente and she was given to Italy as a War Reparation. The Italian Navy did not knew what to do with her so she becamed a sitting duck in a dock and was used by the sailors as a Sailor's Nightclub
---Escape---
In September of 1943 she and her crew escaped from an Italian port before it was taken by the Allies and she somehow made it safely to a French port
---A Fatal Decision---
Horthy escaped to Brest but she was constantly harrassed by waves of bombers so later in the same year she got an order to try to make to a German port
---Demise---
In 1943 September 19. Horthy limped out of Brest in a huge smoke cloud and headed to Iceland so she can hopefully dodge the British navy in the area and make it back to Germany safely but when Iceland camed into horizon she hitted a mine,she was not in any danger of sinking but her new Captain Gaufrid Kraus decided to break the radio silence and call for help, this one decision single handedly doomed the ship. Horthy's message was soon decoded in Bletchley park and a RAF squadron was sent to sink SMS Horthy Miklós.Horthy got spotted by the RAF squadron around 4pm and her last battle started...... She dodged and weaved for an hour but two bombs hitted her. One hitted her portside secondary turret and detonated its ammunition there thus causing a fire,the second one gone trough the navigational bridge and detonated in the citadel. This one hit disabled her engines,lights,rudder and the marconi equipment and caused an enormous flame to start in the heart of the ship. Her crew fought through the night to extiguish the fires but the fire reached her main ammunition chamber. The mighty explosion broked the ship in half,her torn apart stern sinked in seconds but her bow stayed afloat for almost one and a half minutes before slipping under the waves.

The German Navy was impressed by the survivability she had compared to its size so the Navy ordered a class based on the design of her. Plans were drawn up and 2 sisterships started being built, the older would be named after the namesake of the original ship, Hungary's leader Admiral Horthy and her sistership would have been named "September" referring to the original SMS Horthy Miklós's launching date,sadly September was never finished.
