In theory lasers are a horrid weapon for planet combat as they would just set everything on fire including the people firing them, they'd do extremely well in cold environments but that is about it.
Uh. Modern laser weapon actually requires much more maintenance then big bullet gun, which just requires changing out the barrel after a few dozen shots while laser weapons often needs to have very expensive and hard to make parts made with exotic materials swapped out because they burnt out after a few uses.
And laser weapons also requires "reloading" as you need to wait for the capacitors to charge as while your battery is high performance, it can't release 30kW (almost)instantly.
You can probably put down a few dozen rounds with the 127mm cannon with an autoloader with proper firing solutions before you can charge your fancy laser gun from empty.
I imagine future scifi laser weapons with future scifi power systems probably just requires a quick focusing medium swap after a few dozen shots or something
