Boom's Assyria

Description
For all my Civ V fans out there, the return of Assyria, led by Ashurbanipal!
Assyria was an an ancient Mesopotamian civilization which began as a city-state, but evolved into the largest empire of its time. Its warrior-kings focused upon expansion, believing it to be their divine right to bring all people under the rule of Assyria. They were able to accomplish this through development of the earliest siege warfare and siege engines, as well as powerful administrative systems that could govern large systems efficiently and resettling of conquered peoples in order to prevent rebellion.

Ashurbanipal was the last powerful king of the Assyrian Empire before its collapse. He headed various campaigns against the civilizations around Assyria, but surprisingly, considering his brutally cruel nature, his self-described most impressive accomplishment was the construction of the Library of Ashurbanipal, by far the largest library in history til that point and unsurpassed until the construction of the Library of Alexandria some 400 years later.

Boom's Assyria
Assyria is a force to be reckoned with in the early game, with their powerful Siege Engine unique unit enabling easy conquest of cities, and following conquest, their civilization ability and their unique improvement, the Lamassu, enable the easy integration of conquered cities into a comfortable and productive place in the empire. Ashurbanipal takes advantage of these conquests to gain Great Writers, which he uses to fill his Library of Ashurbanipal, catapulting him far ahead in the Technology and Civics trees.

Leader Ability: Treasures of Ninevah
  • Great Works of Writing gain +1 Science and Culture, with an additional +1 Science and Culture per campus building present in the city
  • Conquering a city grants a burst of Great Writer points (5 base + 5 for each district present in the city)
  • Earning a Great Writer grants a free Eureka
  • Gain the Library of Ashurbanipal unique building
    • Unique Government Plaza building, replacing nothing, unlocked at tier 1 Government
    • Provides 5 Great Works of Writing slots, and is themable
    • Provides 2 Writer points per turn

Civilization Ability: Ruba'Um
  • Founded cities gain +25% production toward military and support units
  • Conquered cities gain +35% production toward buildings and districts already constructed in the capital
  • Gain access to the Mass Resettlement project
    • The Mass Resettlement project moves 1 citizen from all conquered cities within 5 tiles to the city that preformed the project, as well as building roads around the city

Unique Infrastructure: Lamassu
  • Unique improvement, unlocked at Masonry
  • +2 Faith, may only be built on flat land not next to another Lamassu
  • Receives yields when next to the City Center, depending on if the city was conquered or not
    • +1 Food and Production when in a founded city
    • +1 Culture and Science when in a conquered city
  • +1 Science and Faith for each adjacent Campus
  • +1 Culture and Faith for each adjacent Theater Square
  • +1 Science at Astronomy
  • Gains Tourism equal to Faith at Flight

Unique Unit: Siege Engine
  • Unique Battering Ram replacement, unlocked at Masonry

  • Adjacent units receive +8 combat strength when defending against ranged attacks

Notes and Acknowledgements
This is my first mod adding a new civ, or for that matter anything that isn't just an edit to the base game. Huge thanks to p0kiehl, Sailor Cat, MC, Fuzzle, and countless others for their invaluable help in my journey in learning how to mod. Also thanks to C15 for making his unfortunately now out of date Assyria mod, that gave me some inspiration.

Art for Ashurbanipal is taken from Civ 5, as well as the Siege Engine model, thanks to Deliverator for porting all Civ 5 units to Civ 6.

It's possible to do an animated leader. Deliverator knows how to port over animated Civ5 leaders to Civ6.

I rather enjoyed this Assyrian package, as it is a missing civilization to the base game, however, I have one recommendation for you. I would make it so that the cultural architecture and unit art style matches that of the ancient Mesopotamian peoples. I found your overall abilities and ideas great, though the European looking buildings and units just threw me right out of it. This is obviously a minor problem, but it still counts. Well, overall, thanks for this mod as it was definitely needed. Especially since C15's is currently obsolete to the current game version.

I wish there was ynamp compatibility the only thing bad about this mod.

update leader portrait with a HD picture maybe will be better.

Great mod, the only jarring thing which puts me on the fence of wanting to use it is the blurry low-res leader art.

yes, it is a super unique (replaces nothing) tier 1 government building like the queen's bibliotheque
Bluff Battalion Mar 7, 2023 @ 9:19am
Great mod! The unique Library when built makes the other Government buildings un-buildable. Is this intended?

Hi Boom,
your mod has been translated by Junky into German and the translation is now part of the German translations for Civilization VI mods mod pack.
We would be more than happy if you could refer to the language translation in your mod description.

Hey yall, sorry, I took a pretty long break from modding but I am back now although I will most likely be working slower. I am working on YNAEMP compatibility for this mod, although to be honest its not going great right now
