Description
My version of the Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless aircraft carrier based dive bomber (SBD - Scout Bomber Douglas).
It's an approximation, not a 1:1 replica.

This is the same plane as my Douglas A-24 Banshee but with a different paint scheme and this version has an arrestor hook for carrier landings.

It's armed with 2 machine guns in the engine cowling, 2 rear machine guns manned by the radio operator, 1 1600 lb bomb under the fuselage released with a bomb cradle to avoid the propeller, and 1 325 lb bomb under each wing.

This carrier based plane did not have folding wings since the wings needed to be robust for dive bombing.

Alt controls to fly.
W/S: Variable throttle.
A/D: Yaw and ground steering.
LUp/Down arrow: Pitch.
Left/Right arrow: Roll.
X/Disable steering: Landing gear.
Hold X/Invert steering: Air brakes.
Fire action 1/Num 1: Machine guns.
Fire action 2/Num 2: 1600 lb bomb.*
Fire action 3-4/Num 3-4: 325 lb bombs.
Fire action 8/Num 8: Arrestor hook.

Rear machine gun uses Alt controls.
Up/Down arrow / Mouse: Aim up/down.
Left/Right arrow / Mouse: Aim side to side.
Fire action 1/Num 1: Fire.

Camera 1: Rear machine guns for better visibility.
Camera 2: 1600 lb bomb so you can check your aim.

* To dive bomb approach at altitude (400+ metres), reduce throttle, apply air brakes, go into a steep dive (60-80 degrees), aim and drop the 1600 lb bomb. A green light in the cockpit will indicate the bomb's been released and it's time to pull up. The cradle will fall off after a few seconds.
NOTE! Don't go into a full 90 degrees dive since the physics in the game won't let the bomb swing away properly and bomb + cradle might well end up in your propeller.
Don't forget to retract the air brakes!

Feel free to edit but if you re-upload in any manner please credit the original creation and creator.

Have fun!

Thanks, I'm glad you like them. :)

you make some of the best planes

The developer and beta testers seem to have been so concerned with making water work that the effect of the new fluid dynamics for (slower) planes has just been ignored. At least for my planes.

Also using flaps as airbrakes which worked just fine in the old version does NOT work at all, the plane just dives uncontrollably even though I have more up force than down force since the down flaps are not even aerodynamic now, but that doesn't matter. 🙄

I'm trying to get the Daunteless flyable but it's very tricky and the new system seems to add some weird randomness to it all with the "different lift at different attack angles" or something because one turn goes well at a certain speed, the next turn at the same speed he plane flies off upwards because of some minute pitch or roll change. And don't get me started on rolls. Every time I try to roll the plane pitches up even though the downforce on the other aileron should cancel it but it doesn't so rolling becomes a cork screw movement which also robs you of all airspeed. It barely works with a small plane like this, my Superfortress I tinkered with all day yesterday just goes a 1/4 roll, looses all airspeed and goes sideway down, with no chance to continue or counter the roll. Sorry for venting, but this update may have killed all my aircraft and my building any new ones and it sucks.

After some testing the problem(well one of many problems) is that I use aerodynamics on the fins on the bombs to make them fall better, but after the update the lift generated by aerodynamic pieces has increased A LOT so the fins on the bombs literally pull the plane down like that. 🙄
Sadly even without aerodynamic fins the new aerodynamics in the game makes it nearly impossible to get slow flying planes like WW2 planes fly well, especially large ones with wing spans over 15 meters. They're basically fookes as it stands right now. 😕

My planes were all made for the previous version, after the update yesterday they don't work as they should at all sadly. I'll go through them and see what I can fix bit it'll take a while. 😕

everytime i start up the engine this thing gets pulled down like it's too heavy i tried going up but it just keeps going down
