DC9V MK 9 SAR VTOL DC9

Description
DC9V VTOL Capable DC 9 Mk 9

The DC9V is an incredibly capable search and rescue aircraft with vertical take-off and landing capability. You can as easily operate from a runway as a helipad as clearing in a forest or an ice flow in the Arctic. No weather is too rough for this aircraft. In the horizontal mode it flies and controls just like a plane but in vertical mode it is just as agile and practical as a helicopter. Fully capable of rescuing from land sea and ice. Onboard systems are fairly straightforward to use but please let me know if anything does not work as intended.

(Alternative paint jobs are encouraged. (I'm just bad at painting stuff so if you can do a better please do.)

THIS IS A REFITTED VEHICLE.

You can find the original airframe here. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2213660783

I have refitted the original airframe and find tuned associated micro controllers I'm afraid I will not be able to quote all microcontrollers that have been used as I only know the ones I have added.

General specifications

(Through use of the kite system the DC9V is more than capable of being operated entirely solo. Fully capable of rescuing from land, sea or ice)

Crew Compliment
Pilot
Co-pilot (Secondary role as winch operators)
Systems Operator (Secondary role as winch operators)

Seating capacity
Medical beds (8)
Padded seats (24)
Passenger seat (8)
Harness capacity (6)
Total (46) +2 if systems operator and co-pilot seats aren’t occupied.

(All range predictions based off on-board fuel computer.)
Top Speed 160
Range At Top Speed 135 Km
Cruising Speed 70
Maximum possible range (at cruising speed) 450 Km

Unnecessary lengthy checklist. All creations have checklist these days.

(I had to put it in an Office 365 file because it's too long.)

Currently Installed Systems

(Autopilot master must be engaged to activate autopilot/Roll stabilizer/altitude hold.) The autopilot can NOT BE OVERRIDDEN by any manual input to the controls autopilot master must be disabled. Autopilot Functionality is split between

An independent roll stabiliser that will keep the aircraft on an even roll.

Altitude hold. Automatically ascends or descends to match the selected altitude on the small keypad (WARNING Altitude hold does not include automatic terrain avoidance. if you set attitude hold to low you may crash into a mountain.)

Autopilot navigation to waypoint. This allows the aircraft to fly to a destination fully autonomously. After inputting coordinates to the large keyboard remember to enable autopilot master and autopilot. (Best use the with attitude hold and roll stabilizer.)

PLEASE NOTE (In hover mode do not trust attitude to ascend large distances. [Over 500 m difference at a time.] As this may cause the aircraft to get stuck doing loops.) I strongly advised that you climb to the required level in hover mode then activate altitude hold within 500m of your target altitude. If you are within 500m of your target altitude you can entirely trust it to work as expected. It can safely descend to any altitude.

In a horizontal flight mode the altitude hold can be entirely trusted to ascend or descend any distance.

Lighting And Illumination.
Illumination 10 Flare Controller (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2022267604)
9 press and hold individual illumination flares. The unit is complete with an automatic hatch at the rear underside of the aircraft.

Gimbal mounted twin search lights with compact 1 block controller.
Twin gimbal mounted search lights with a 1 block controller in the cockpit. They have a field of view of 0 to -90.
The angle can be fully control from the cockpit allowing them to be used as search lights, top-down illumination and landing lights.

White interior lighting.
Anti-collision, navigation, logo/tail lights I believe are all correct.
Landing, taxi, and vertical spotlights all provide appropriate visibility when flying and landing at night.

Kite Array
The winch length and mag all can be fully control from the cockpit with a 1 block controller. The kite array can be used to lift and carry almost all ai vehicles but it was primarily installed to anchor the aircraft to the ground or ship in bad weather. (As it is a large aircraft the wind drift cancellation is not as effective as it has been on smaller aircraft.)

Enable vertical altitude hold and auto hover shutdown horizontal engines and allow the altitude holds to keep the aircraft at a low altitude and the mag all on the ground to stop it from drifting. I have found this is a useful way to stabilize small vessels in difficult maritime rescue conditions. (It being too windy.) If the vessel is in trouble near any description of land sometimes it is easier just to pick up the vessel. and put it on land to conduct the rescue.

Parachute Ballistics Computer (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2078172280)
The on-board parachute ballistics computer is simpler to use than it is to explained.

1 Put your target drop location into the autopilot.
2 Enable autopilot master, roll stabiliser, altitude hold (the higher the better.) and autopilot.
3 Open the harness bay and activate the parachute ballistics computer.
4 Follow the on-screen countdown and cue buzzers.
5 Jump out and they don’t open your parachute immediately. Let yourself fall, see your destination and wait until you are closer to the ground before opening.
6 Remember to equip parachute...Maybe I should have put this higher up the list?

(The parachute ballistics computer is not designed to work with the onboard drop pods that are meant to be dropped in hover mode but can be blind dropped at low speed in flight mode.)

1x3 Artificial Horizon (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2596867124)

General System Station
The general system station contains a variety of different readouts so the general systems operator can gauge the aircraft capability, this includes.

Navigation Station (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1748031329)
A large map with generous zoom to allow navigation if in game map disabled

Flight Info Screen (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2353192388)
Contains multiple readouts from critical system. Speed, fuel, altitude, battery charge.

1x1 Monitor Digital Clock with Temperature (UPDATE) (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2067998970)
A small one by one read out with external temperature and digital 24-hour time.

1x1 Fuel Computer (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2037028237)
The DC9V on-board fuel computer is touch compatible from the general system operator's seat... Ok don't ask why but I couldn't get the composite switch box to allow a touchscreen control from the cockpit when it is switched from the radar screen.

Supply Pods
There’s just one kinds of supply pod fitted to the DC9V. The DC9V is equipped with two ASSP’s (All Situations Supply Pod) ASSP Contain all potential equipment that could be needed mid rescue operation.
They are intended to be dropped in hover mode but they can be blind dropped when flying at low-speed.

Emergency battery and jumper cables, emergency heater, emergency medical equipment, fire suppression, clothing and equipment, ground illumination equipment torches, flares, parachute flares and an assortment of miscellaneous items like radios, transponder, oxygen masks and binoculars.
