Nightrunner Trials - Gold Medal Walkthroughs
By Ashininity
This guide will help you achieve gold medal times in all Nightrunner Trials in Dying Light 2. We'll show you routes and strategies for tackling these challenges in the required times to achieve a gold medal (in many cases, we beat the times by wide margins). In these videos, we had all parkour skills unlocked and level 20 stamina, but this is likely more than what's needed. To keep things simple, we opted not to use the paraglider or the grappling hook unless absolutely necessary. Enjoy...and if you beat any of our times, leave a comment to let us know!

The map location for each trial can be found at the start of each video.

Nightrunner Trial I in 1:33.77
This Nightrunner Trial tests "general parkour proficiency." With good management of momentum and stamina—and the help of a few hidden jump pads—achieving gold on this one is fairly easy.

Nightrunner Trial II in 0:17.60
In this "quick thinking test," you get to pick the order in which you touch the checkpoints. The quickest route is to travel in a circle, but it can be difficult to keep your speed up without falling to street-level. This one may take some practice; thankfully, it's very short!

Nightrunner Trial III in 1:08.45
This one can be frustrating at first. It's easy to fly past checkpoints without touching them. Make the first jump fairly shallow to avoid jumping clear overtop of the first checkpoint. Any time you throw the grappling hook, make sure you're the right distance from the anchor point to allow you to swing into the next checkpoint or avoid obstacles. During the descent sequence, use crouch to drop out of a grapple rather than jumping out; not only does this save time, but the added fall distance created by jumping could result in significant fall damage.

Nightrunner Trial IV in 1:10.04
In this one, you're carrying a fragile package and have to avoid hitting the ground too hard. (Luckily, there's no penalty for letting the package take some damage...)

Nightrunner Trial V in 1:03.70
Another test of "general parkour proficiency" but at a much higher level than Trial I. Well-timed sprinting is the key to making it across the wide gaps in this course.

Nightrunner Trial VI in 0:58.00
There are only two checkpoints in this one. Naturally, there are many ways to traverse between them. The video will show you several tricks for reaching them in the fastest possible time.

Nightrunner Trial VII in 0:37.81
This one is about precision and knowing the fastest way to avoid or ascend obstacles. The obvious way is not always the best way.

Nightrunner Trial VIII in 0:44.88
I found that Nightrunner Trial 8 was the hardest of the ten on which to achieve the gold medal time. After many route iterations and studying the methods of others, I've concluded that the gold medal route requires the grappling hook upgraded once (which gives you a quick "pull" in the direction of the anchor when it attaches to a surface) or the paraglider upgraded twice (which gives you the speed boost ability). I decided to go the paraglider route, since (1) you can get the paraglider much earlier than the grappling hook, and (2) I don't like the "jerkiness" of using the grappling hook for a quick jump forward every few seconds. However, that's an option if you want to go that route.

The paraglider jumps I make in this video are fairly precise. They were frustrating to learn at first, but with practice they became second nature. As for actual parkour tips, don't waste your sprint on short running segments; save it for the longer running stretches.

Nightrunner Trial IX in 1:05.98
Even though rope-swinging is a pretty slow way of getting around, I couldn't find a more sure way of achieving the gold-medal time than using the ropes as intended. (I found a few tricks that, if executed perfectly, might let you skip the ropes and save a few milliseconds here and there, but I felt they were beyond the scope of this guide.) They key is to swing *only as long as you have to*. There's a sweet spot during each rope swing where you've got enough height to make the next jump but the rope hasn't yet started to slow. Be sure to jump before you pass this point; swinging past it will cost you forward momentum.

When swinging upward toward a platform, the goal is to jump/drop from the rope at the exact right speed and angle to land precisely on the edge. You don't want to waste time travelling upward at the expense of moving forward, but neither do you want to wind up grabbing the edge and having to pull yourself up. See the video for a few other time-saving tricks to use between rope jumps.

Grakour in 0:41.24
This one is unique in that you have to perform three falls broken by rolls. Therefore, one of the requirements for getting the gold is finding optimal places to fall from enough of a height that the roll can be performed. Then, you have to get back up to the rooftops without losing too much time or forward momentum.

My Whole World is a Glider in 0:52.62
This Nightrunner Challenge puts your glider skills to the test. A fully upgraded glider is recommended. As you practice the route, take note of spots where gusts of wind provide you a natural speed boost (there are several of these). Time your own speed boosts for windows of time where you're not receiving a natural speed boost.

Stroll on the River in 0:46.40
The key to this one is to spend as little time as possible in the water or swinging on ropes. The video showcases many ways to optimise the route on this one.

Flying Scorpion in 1:05.73
The Flying Scorpion trial (added in a post-launch update) is an advanced challenge that requires skilled use of the paraglider and grappling hook to achieve a gold medal time.

Suspension of Disbelief in 1:57.77
The intended path for this challenge involves chaining together a bunch of rope-swinging and wall-running. However, ropes are really slow, so we're going to paraglide instead. The key in this one is management of stamina regeneration. Stamina will regenerate while you're running (not sprinting/dashing), so there are times when it's faster to forego sprinting so that you'll have enough stamina for your next series of jumps or glides.

Other tips: Spend as little time on ropes as possible, and make the first jump early so as not to land too high on the first rope.

Awesome guide! Will you do platinum medals at some point?
