Defining the Standards
All the skins listed below are considered vanilla friendly. This just means they fit within the Left 4 Dead universe without standing out or generally seeming out of place. As a rule of thumb, expect an alternate skin to follow at least most of these guidelines:
  • Canonicity: The alternate skin could fit within the Left 4 Dead universe and setting. (For example, a medieval knight or sci-fi skin wouldn't be listed as it doesn't fit within the setting and time period.)
  • Compliments the Character: The alternate skin should somewhat fit the character's initial style and personality. (For example, Francis wouldn't wear a pink shirt with a flower pattern.)
  • Self-Contained Brands: Branding or logos that exist in real life will be used extremely sparingly or not at all. (For example, a shirt with a Nike logo will not be used. However, the Midnight Riders being on an article of clothing is fine as the band is fictional.)
  • Aesthetically Pleasing: The alternate skin follows basic color theory and is simply aesthetically pleasing. (For example, clothing that isn't gaudy and is fashionable.)
Keep in mind, as I mentioned above, these guidelines serve as a general rule of thumb. Not all skins collected may fulfill all of them.
