Government Variety Pack (for v3.3)

Beskrivelse
A grab bag of new civics, origins, and government types.

This is a backup/legacy version for Stellaris v.3.3.* (Libra). The current version can be found here: Government Variety Pack (Current)

New Civics

A total of 77 new civics, broken down into 8 origins, 20 normal civics, 19 hive civics, 14 machine civics, 13 megacorp civics, and 3 "advanced" civics available to any non-gestalt empire. Additionally, 5 base game civics have been enhanced with expanded features. Even short summaries cannot be contained in the character limit so see the dedicated civics thread for detailed descriptions.

New Governments

Around 80 new governments (I may have lost count at some point!) spread across nearly all authority types and combining vanilla and GVP-added civics. They are also listed in their own thread. The requirements for making them are in the first reply to that thread.

Special Thanks

ICONS
Wanna give a HUGE THANK YOU to Meltup for making unique icons for the new civics. They look cool and I am super happy someone stepped up to help out with this.

Other Contributors
  • Steam user Namazuo "Horse Poop" Toushiro came up with something like 17 new government suggestions that were all awesome, I added them and they served as the inspiration for a few more.
  • Steam user Garlic Pudding came up with four government ideas I incorporated, and one I have yet to incorporate but a new Civic is WIP for it.

Compatibility and Patches

This mod only adds new things to the game, in new files. There's no possibility of my mod conflicting with another due to both editing base game files, and will only conflict with other mods if for some reason another mod has files with the exact same names in the same places as this in mod. However, if a mod radically changes the way ethics work (especially renaming the base ethics), compatibility will be shaky at best. There's also no guarantee that combinations of mod-added features will "play nice" or be balanced against/with each other in game.

Compaitibility patches exist for a few mods. Some are maintained by me, and some by the other mod's author. They are:

There are a few patches and other versions of this mod. These all require the main GVP mod (this), and do nothing but selectively remove features. If you want all the features of this mod, you don't need any of these patches/alternate versions. They do not add anything and only provide options for users who for whatever reason want to exclude some features. Since all they do is replace files from GVP with identically-named blank files, there isn't typically much need to update them and tbh it's kind of a chore to update the version number on all these so I'm slow to do it. Bottom line, you can almost certainly ignore the compatible version number for them.

The patches and alternate versions are:

There are also "backup" versions of this mod for older versions of Stellaris:
  • Backup for 2.6 (Verne) - Older version of the mod for 2.6 Verne. NOTE: This is a stand-alone backup version, do not run it with the current version!
  • Backup for 2.8 (Butler) - Older version of the mod for 2.8 Butler. NOTE: This is a stand-alone backup version, do not run it with the current version!
  • Backup for 3.0 (D!ck) - Older version of the mod for 3.0 D!ck. NOTE: This is a stand-alone backup version, do not run it with the current version!
  • Backup for 3.2 (Herbert) - Older version of the mod for 3.2 Herbert. NOTE: This is a stand-alone backup version, do not run it with the current version!
All are available on my Workshop page.

Cepheus 3.4 Notice: You should keep your expectations for a speedy update to the new version modest tbh... Just from reading the patch notes, the changes to vassals are extensive and my require a lot of adaptation. To say nothing of scripted localization going away... all my random name generators!

I can't say for 100% sure but there should be no conflict. Whether all the elements will "work together" logically is what's uncertain.

Does the mod work with mods like Machine and robot expansion/forgotten queens without compatibility patch?

You CAN do benevolant monarchies though. Just do xenophile pacifist authoritarian (imperial) and take quality of life for your population civics.

@LittleRaskol The reason I’m asking, is the old government overhaul mod by Chastity the Celibate that was abandoned allowed you to play as democratic authority with authoritarian ethos (think Singapore or current Hungary or Poland) and dictatorial or imperial authorities with egalitarian ethos (think Equestria under the rule of Princess Celestia from MLP) which I thought was pretty cool and open up an whole new range of role-playing possibilites.

As for the Shared Burdens/Worker's Councils thing... I don't know? Or remember? I think the idea was that Shared Burdens represents a much more thorough and successful attempt at building a society around communal values than either Worker's Councils or Institutionalized Collectivism (the mod's two socialist-flavored civics). In essence, both WC and IC represent "approaches" to a society becoming communist. SB is successful communism. It obsoletes and "completes" the other two.

So in that case, the real issue is: why is SB *not* incompatible with IC? Maybe it should be, but either way it should be consistent. So I'll think it over.

I don't intend to radically change the way ethics work, but I do have a "constitutional monarchy" civic in the works (it has been in the works for a very long time...)

1603: I mostly think the difference is in what the things are named, rather than what they represent in game 'lore'. Imperial or Dictatorial authority, for example, means that the Emperor or Dictator or Tyrant or whatever *actually rules with an iron fist*. A Constitutional Monarchy where the representative senate rules and the 'king' is a figurehead isn't a monarchy at ALL; you could name such a civilization a 'Kingdom' if you wish, however.
