How to Play The Definitive Version of Amy's Story

Amy's Story is, without a doubt, the best story of Sonic Adventure. But with a few simple tweaks, it can become even better, infinitely improved, much more emotionally and thematically resonant. This guide will show you how!

The Story of Amy

Amy Rose is, without a doubt, the most pathos-filled character of the entire Sonic series. A young hedgehog trying to make it in the world as an independent master of her own fate, yet forever shackled to Sonic by chronic feelings of unrequited love (and also the whims of SEGA executives). As exemplified in her brilliant theme song, My Sweet Passion, which talks of how much she desires freedom and adventures of her own, but has trouble sleeping at night without Sonic, and ultimately is far too addicted to her favorite blue hedgehog (or an appropriate simulacrum of him) to self-actualize as her own being.



And then one day, while making her way back home to her low-rent Station Square apartment from a routine grocery run, she finds a poor lost birdie. Sympathizing with the bird's plight, she resolves to return it home at all costs, and in so doing, finds the sense of free-spirited Amy Adventure she was always seeking.

The First Steps

If you have already modded your copy of SADX, you may skip this section of the guide.

Before we can fix Amy's Story of Sonic Adventure, we must first fix Sonic Adventure.

Download the SADX Mod Installer from https://sadxmodinstaller.unreliable.network/ and use it to modify your Steam install of the game according to your personal preferences. This will restore the look of the game to resemble the original Dreamcast release and come with other perks like up-rez'd HUD icons and better water textures.

Fixing Amy's Story

Once you have fixed Sonic Adventure, and downloaded your preferred Amy model (Dreamcast, DX, or any variety of "Modern Amy" model) then navigate to this link: https://gamebanana.com/mods/309964

There, scroll down and select one of the two options shown here:


Step 1:

If you chose 1-click install, you can skip to step 2.

Extract "amy_s_shopping_bag.7z" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sonic Adventure DX\mods"

Once done, you should have an "Amy's Shopping Bag" folder located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sonic Adventure DX\mods\Amy's Shopping Bag" which looks like this:


Step 2:

the SADX Mod Loader should have already been installed by the SADX Mod Installer. It is located in your main Sonic Adventure DX folder, at the following path: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sonic Adventure DX\SADXModManager.exe"

Open the Mod Loader if it is not open already, and in the mods list, scroll down till you find "Amy's Shopping Bag." Tick off the associated checkmark to enable the mod, then click "Save."

Step 3:

You're done!

Enjoy Amy's Story!

You may experience some glitches with this mod in cutscenes, such as that shown here:



Don't worry about them! they're purely visual glitches, very infrequent, mostly really funny, and outside of cutscenes, the mod works as intended. Amy, bless her hedgehog soul, will forget completely about finishing her grocery trip and go out of her way to help save her birdie friend!

Finally, Amy's Story can be experienced as it was truly meant to be!
