gm_trainride_v1 is a unique, but a small narrow map with a train moving seemingly nowhere, forever.

Now includes a separate day map!



Description

A foggy outcast railroad somewhere in the middle of nowhere in Eastern Europe or a boundless Russian outback area.

This map is a result of a yearlong struggle to make something interesting in the form of my first Garry's Mod map. At first it was huge, then the map file just rested on my drive with no use for far too long. So I got tired of it, rolled up my sleeves and decisively made it at the very least playable: a single moving train with multiple traincars and surroundings that create the illusion of endless movement. The train itself is static and I believe did my best to make it feel like it's not.



What's the appeal?

My quest of searching for a perfect "infinitely moving vehicle" kind of map for sandbox in Workshop has been but a failure. So this is my personal attempt to recreate this interesting concept in Garry's Mod and adding some details to it, having previously seen something similar in UT2004 (Assault - KR-Convoy) and in TF2 (ctf_convoy_v2).

I'm willing to try to support and/or update this map whenever possible, and it's damn sure not the last one. The next one's big, oh trust me.

i'm still trying to get around this in v2 but i'm struggling like an mf

func_conveyor in my testing didn't affect props at all , thus the map uses trigger_push entity, however none of these entities affect cleint side ragdolls, it's just a limit which i can't get around as a mapper
well, either that or i'm just impeccably imbecilic, my mapping experience is not very consistent, but i lean towards the first option

wait, does func_conveyor affect props, ragdolls? or it wouldn't possible because player ragdoll is client side

i have no power there since a player becomes a client-side ragdoll on death that is mostly unaffected by map's physics, which can be changed by installing certain addons that turn players into server-side ragdolls, if you consider it worth a hustle
