Shoddy Firearms Dissemination Patch

Description
This is basically a less drastic version of Shoddy Firearms LITE. You should susbcribe only to one of the two.

in a nutshell, this mod removes the Gunsmith faction, and the related NPC and cities. Instead it disseminates ammos and firearms into vanilla vendors/shops, as well as having a chance to be found on some vanilla npc.

I have set the probabilities to find ammos and crossbows so that it is more difficult to find the more powerful of them. In particular I thought it makes sense for the lore if there is a bit of struggle to find ammos (especially for the musket).

I've also edited the vanilla NPC which already had a chance to have crossbows, and I've given them a bit of a smaller chance to have a gun instead.
I tried to assign guns of similar level to the crossbows that they already had. For instance the Dust Bandits have mostly cheap flintlocks, while Tech Hunters and Slavers might have muskets, while Skeletons and other strong wandering characters could have the Empire Wheellock as well.

If you like this mod you might be interested in my other mods related to Shoddy Firearms:
* Shoddy Firearms Rebalanced -- rebalance firearms costs, stats, techs and production chain
* Shoddy Firearms into Interactive World -- Integrate with Interactive World and uses Black Powder to produce ammos. Also rebalance everything in the same way as the other mod.

Please let me know in the comments if there is something that you would like to change or something broken.
And please don't forget to like or favorite if you're enjoying this Mod! :)

Hello @MizKai! I am usually playing with my patch "Shoddy Firearms into Interactive World" and the ammos require blackpowder so they end up much more expensive than the crossbow's (price is calculated based on the ingredients' cost). If you don't use Interactive World, then you should use my other patch "Shoddy Firearms Rebalanced". In that patch I've just increased the profitability (hence the price) of gun ammos, as I've just noticed that indeed in the base mod they end up cheaper than crossbo ammos because they have cheaper ingredients. This patch is meant only for dissemination tweaks, that's why I changed the price in the "rebalanced" patch instead. Have a look and maybe let me know how much they cost after the update! :)

so if the ammo was rare but it was cheaper than the toothpick. lol i dunno. nobody wants to sell cheaper materials if it was rare.

Ammos are cheaper than the crossbows. or i think cuz i installed some economics mods. but anyway ammos should be more expensive. 2x expensive.

I am sorry Vas but I haven't played Kenshi in a while and I never tried Genesis... Maybe try to ask to someone who worked on Genesis.. It should be easy for them as they know which NPC to edit. ;)

Could you make a Genesis patch so Genesis NPCs could spawn with guns

and talking about the interesting challenges of crafting guns because they are rare, I recommend using this patch along with my other mod "Shoddy Firearms Rebalanced", which among the rest tweaks the tech tree and production chains related to guns and makes it more interesting/challenging. Or if you use Interactive World, then instead you can use "Shoddy Firearms into Interactive World" which does the same tweaks but also allows to produce ammos from saltpeter and sulfur. :)
anyways, many thanks for your feedback and for using my mod(s). I hope you had fun! :D

yeah I guess it depends on how one looks at the lore. :) I think for the creator of Shoddy Firearms (and for me) guns are more of an exception. A technology that was lost and then only recently a few people managed to re-invent it in a shoddy way. But it's still not of common knowledge. In the original mod there is only one faction that knows how to build them, which I think was a bit too restrictive for gameplay, although it made sense for the lore. But in my patch I still wanted to keep that sense of rarity. So yeah, everyone would want guns, but they are hard to craft and therefore scarce. Which then makes for a good roleplay in my opinion, because you'll have to travel around a lot in order to find decent guns, or you'll have to put a lot of effort into research and production chains in order to craft your own guns, so you can finally have as many as you want. :D

I guess my issue with it is there are just far too few squads that have crossbows and thus have a chance of spawning with them. With the amount you see them being used make them seem more like a novelty than a sought after weapon. You would think that all the factions would try to mass produce these because it took less skill to train soldiers with them and there isn't much craftsmanship that goes into what is basically a hollow metal tube that sits on a wooden stock, but that's just my take on it guess. Nice mod regardless, and thanks for replying!

hello @Mythril , have you tried with a new game or after running an import? honestly I think with this mod it's fairly common to find someone with guns... muskets are a bit more rare but you should find at least one or two guys with some kind of flintlock in nearly every group of dust bandits or other factions which usually have crossbows. There is to consider that there are quite a few factions that will never have crossbows, and those won't have guns either. I think it made complete sense that people like the berserkers will never have a gun (or a crossbow) as they fight with huge melee weapons and their skills are not meant for ranged weapons.
and then you can usually find some kind of gun (and ammos) in any shop that usually sells crossbows. Again, not all shops do, but that's the same for crossbows and it makes sense to me.

I really wish there was a version of this mod that made the guns more common. The times that you would encounter them is just too few and far in between to have an impact on how you play, or to even be believable. It's just weird for them to be a good weapon and see almost no one else use it.
