Custom map in Dying Light - The Desolate! - akimboKay
Custom Map Gameplay - "The Desolate" - doomguy[3speak.tv]

Story:
The Desolate takes place in what was thought to be an abandoned part of the quarantine zone. Shortly after the outbreak, this scenic part of Harran's coastline was swarmed with people attempting to flee the infection - before long it was overrun and sealed off. For months GRE supply drops have drifted in, but with no-one around to collect them they have been left mostly untouched. It is here that a small group of survivors were dispatched by the Tower to locate and retrieve the Antizin. It's been several days now, and we haven't heard back from them. You must go there, and find out what happened to them.

  • Yinniy-Pig - Playtesting
  • Special Kyle - Playtesting
  • Dying Light Developer Tools Discord - Support, Debugging and Guidance

Features:
  • Fully CO-OP enabled
  • Medium sized open world to explore
  • 1 hour (average) of main quest gameplay
  • 30 minutes (average) of side quest gameplay
  • Forest environment with parkour elements
  • Upgraded Buggy (Quest Unlockable) with reasonable driving area
  • 15 Collectable Notes that present the story of “The Desolate” (and drive the main quest)
Please Note: The main quest line will take you to many of the same places as the side quests, and while providing a blocker for side quest completion, also allows concurrent completion of the main and side quests. This means that completion of the map can be fast or slower depending on the order you complete the quests in. As always time estimates are only what was experienced and will vary based on preferred playstyle.

Please Read before Commenting:
I've found in the past that steam comments can sometimes "steam roll" past making it difficult to track bug reports and apply fixes. So, what I am going to be trying out here is a set of steam discussions (which will be listed below) that are for specific types of bugs, allowing me to maintain better tracking and also provide a straightforward template to make bug reports as useful as possible. I ask kindly that if you have something to report, take a look at the discussions below and pick the appropriate place for your bug report. Thanks in Advance, I'm hoping this will make the process as efficient as possible.

Note from the Author:
Hi all,

It has been a "hot second" since I last put something out for Dying Light. This particular map has been in development pretty much since I released "The Hunter". Those who have played "The Hunter" should recognise part of the map, though it has been largely overhauled since then. About 400 man hours into development, I "hung up" my metaphorical shoes and decided not to continue development. This happened for a variety of reasons, but mostly work and other responsibilities got in the way of modding for Dying Light. As luck would have it, I started to replay Dying Light again, ahead of the release of Dying Light 2 as a bit of a jump on the hype train... and I effectively fell in love with the game all over again. So I was motivated to continue (by some friends as well), and got stuck in to make what was there playable. So while what you're seeing of "The Desolate" may not necessarily be representative of what I had initially intended to make, I feel like it has rounded out into an enjoyable experience. As of writing it is feature complete, and I do not intend to alter much further - aside from bug fixes and loot balance. That being said, I had a mostly fantastic time finishing this up, and I hope each one of you enjoys playing it as much as I enjoyed developing it.

I personally hope that the Development Tools for Dying Light 2 are released timeously, because I cannot wait to dig into them once they're here.

Have a good one fellas!

-Squirrel.

@69th_fab48 - any chance you can elaborate? Are there any specific areas you're experiencing a performance dip, or is it across the board? You can hop on over to the Bug Report - Performance discussion to provide a more detailed report and I'll see what I can do.

@doomguy - I'll see what I can do about telegraphing the buggy's availability later in the map ;)

good! the buggy could have been unlocked from the beging though, OR tell the player at the start (maybe i missed it) that the buggy will be unlocked whanever it's unlocked, so we dont walk around the entire forest looking at stuff before realising it's been 2hours and then we get the buggy, as its been 3 hours!
