Description
Hungry Slimes will eat anything, until there is nothing left!

Now in v4.9.0! (see full patch notes)

Ever dreamed of leading your own army of Slimes? Wait no more, get yours today! Well, they won't really obey you anyway... But they will certainly help your clean all those pesky debris, or vehicles, or buildings, or cities...
Don't like slimy creatures? You can also think of this mod as nanobots, nanites, nanomachines or any sort of technologically advanced way of progressively destroying matter ;)

Demo video by TheAlmightyMaestro.

TOOLS
- Hungry Slimes: You can throw hungry Slimes.

KEYBOARD CONTROLS
- [LeftClick]: Throw Slimes in front of you.
- [L]: Kill half of the Slimes.
- [K]: Kill all the Slimes.
- [M]: Tap to reduce max Slimes on map.
- [M]: Hold to reset max Slimes on map.
- [O]: Open options menu.

CHARACTERISTICS
- Slimes will stick to any surface.
- Slimes will attempt to eat any destructible material near them.
- After eating enough food, a slime will duplicate itself.
- A slime that tried to eat but found no food will die.
- If the surface where a Slime is attached breaks, they will jump to the closest surface.
- The Slimes as a group can be compared to a fire burning anything or some sticky acid liquid.

KNOWN BUGS
- Slimes may fail to eat correctly when near unbreakable material (This is less noticeable when Food for Duplication is set to 1)
- Slimes will lag your game a lot if they multiply too much (see Performance tab).
- Slimes do lag a lot when eating large free-floating objects.
- I did open a discussion to request some features for the modding API that could help optimize the code of this mod a lot :)

DEV NOTES
Originally posted by About this mod:
Well, here is my first Teardowm mod :) But first things first, lets thanks Cheejins for the amazing Gas Can mod he made, and that was heavily reused in this mod!
As I was quite late to the modding party in Teardown, I had a hard time figuring out something that would be interesting to play with and not yet done by the community :p But after watching too much animes, I eventually thought about implementing some sort of spreading-eating-monstruosity in the form of little slimes.
The way I envisionned was by sticking my own "slime voxels" to existing structures dynamically at runtime... Sadly I learnt quite fast that spawning voxels was not yet possible in the modding API :/ Hopefully after browsing the workshop for potential alternative solutions, I found the Gas Can mod which was spawning "entities" into the world that are not voxels, but abstract structures with a position and a particle effect attached to them. That was it: slimes would be particles instead of voxels!
As I reused most of Cheejins' code, I cold focus more on the core feature of this mod: the slimes "eating" matter, and duplicating themselves. Eating was quite easy, but balancing the spawn rate of new slimes in a way that will not instantly burn your PC when you spawn one of them took some time XD I think I ended up with an okay set of default parameters, and left a lot of options to tweak the experience for your own needs ;)

oh okay do you think its a little possible tho?

@jaxchambliss2014: Oh, so I assume that would be a totally different mod... Not sure how to do tentacles in this game, you probably can get some flexible things using joints, but that would probably lag a lot and have very little effect on its surrounding...

alr i have been thinking maybe a gun that shoots out a sphere and tentacles come out

@jaxchambliss2014: I don't know if or when I will update this mod, but feel free to share it ^^

could you add one of my mod ideas?

I belive it will appear that they eat faster objects falling straight into a lot of slimes than when they eat static objects as gravity helps the objects to move where the slimes are already eating matter, whereas on static objects the slimes have to move themselves first to reach some more matter to eat.
Also keep in mind that what you see in some videos is often recorded with the ingame recorder that gives the output video perfect freamerate while it was recorded with probably quite a lot of lag...

@Jowick™: With those settings it seems that they should eat pretty fast, maybe try disabling the option "Auto-kill Slimes attached to the same block" so that more slimes have chances to eat from the same location (note that it will probably lag a lot more though). Also not sure if the hive mind option is necessary, sometimes it is just more efficient to let them die where there is not much to eat and multiply a lot in other places with more edible stuff.
If you want them to eat faster you can always increase eat radius, and if you notice that they fall from the thing they are eating too often try to also increase their size (or use the "eat radius for size" option) as this will help them stick to objects from further away.

This question might have been answered previously, but I'm trying to figure out how to adjust the settings so that the slimes eat the object they stick to almost instantly, and they duplicate crazy and sometimes even eat objects at the same rate they fall at. I currently have the settings set to eat delay - 0
eat radius - 1
food for duplication - 1
jump distance - 10
life - infinite
I have hive mind enabled
I have max population infinite
When I throw them at a building on a map, they still eat somewhat slowly and they despawn very quickly, and they don't seem to be duplicating either
