The ship was built under the hull number 163 at the Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft in Kiel . The keel was laid on September 4, 1979, the launch on January 12, 1980. The completion took place on June 27, 1980. Then the Berlin was delivered to the shipping company Peter Deilmann and used under the German flag for worldwide cruises . From 1982 to 1985 the ship was chartered out to Singapore as Princess Masuhri , but was still sailing under the German flag.

At the end of 1986 it was rebuilt at the Nobiskrug shipyard in Rendsburg. The ship was lengthened by 16.8 meters from 122.5 to 139.3 meters. The conversion increased the ship's capacity from 330 passengers in 150 cabins to 420 passengers in 210 cabins. From 1986 to 1998 Berlin was Das Traumschiff in the ZDF television series.

The ship's service for the Peter Deilmann shipping company ended at the end of 2004. The ship was first in Genoa launched and sold after three months Aufliegezeit to the British cruise operators Saga Cruises. Saga Cruises chartered the ship for one season in 2005 to the Russian operator Metropolis Tur (Метрополис Тур), who used the ship as the Orange Melody under the flag of the Bahamas for cruises around Europe.

After a conversion, in which the capacity of the ship was reduced from 420 passengers to 352 by converting several double cabins to single cabins, the ship sailed as the Spirit of Adventure . In August 2011 the German tour operator FTI Group bought the ship and marketed it through the subsidiary FTI Cruises from May 2012 under the name FTI Berlin in Germany. [2] [3] As of March 2014 the ship was again under the original name Berlin in use. [4]

The FTI Group announced in 2020 that it would cease parts of its business activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic , including the tour operator FTI Cruises. [5] The ship was subsequently taken over by Dreamliner Cruises [6] and in Dream Goddess renamed.

Incidents
In 2007 the Spirit of Adventure got into the cyclone gamede with around 250 passengers on board off Madagascar . [7]

On January 12, 2011, the ship was attacked by pirates in the Indian Ocean between Madagascar and Zanzibar , but was able to escape. [8th]

On June 14, 2018, during an inspection in Dublin, damage was found to a suspension on one of the lifeboats . The ship was then not allowed to continue its voyage, which meant that it could not be in Bremerhaven as planned for the passenger change on June 17 . The passengers were therefore disembarked in Dublin on June 17th and flown to Bremen , the new passengers to Dublin on June 18th.
