과거 여객열차에서는 전력이 많이 필요하지 않아 차축 발전기로 생산되는 전기로 차내 선풍기나 조명, 안내방송에서나 사용되었습니다.
그러나 객차가 현대화 되면서 차축발전기로만 전기 공급이 어려워짐에 따라 대형 엔진이 장착된 발전차가 등장하게 됩니다.
해당 모델은 1990년부터 등장한 새마을호 스테인리스 차체 디자인 형태의 발전차입니다.
