How To:
  1. To load mods, you have to install a Mod Manager:
    Vortex Mod Manager[www.nexusmods.com]

  2. This can be integrated with Nexus Mods, a website widely used for publishing Fallout 4 Mods:
    Nexus Mods[www.nexusmods.com]

(Sign into your Nexus Mods Account on both)

  3. When you find a mod you like, below the row of images, click:
    Files,
    Mod Manager Download,
    Slow Download

And Vortex should automatically find that downloaded file and begin installing it.

Using Vortex:
When installed, it should add a shortcut to your desktop.
The first thing you should do after opening it, is sign into your Nexus account.

The UI isn't easy to understand at first, so let me explain it.
  1. On the left you have your menus.
You will mostly be on Mods.

  2. This is a list which shows all the mods which it has extracted to %username%\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\fallout4\mods.

If you download a mod by choosing the Mod Manager Download option in Nexus, it automatically extracts it to that folder.

If you download a mod manually or already have mods on your pc, there is an option to Drop Files into Vortex, in a box below the mods list.

  3. Once a mod has sucessfully installed, you can choose to Enable, Disable or Uninstall it.
When you enable a mod, Vortex deploys it, and will bring up another menu if the mod has any settings.

  4. Once you have all the mods you want, you can launch Fallout 4 in the top left corner of Vortex.
It automatically finds conflicts and lets you swiftly change if a mod should load before or after another mod (and even suggests which choice you should make).

As you can probably tell, Vortex is a very good mod manager as it gives you full control over mods and simplifies the installation process greatly. :)

use mod organizer 2 instead of vortex. it uses a virtual file system so nothing is added to the base game directory

Apologies, I'm new to PCs in general-- but Vortex wants me to link to F4 as it doesn't find it on its own, but it doesn't "see" the app inside the Steam library on my HD.
