## Railway Station Dictionary ##

@ Beijing Railway Station

Opened in 1959, Beijing Railway Station was the largest railway station in China at the time. Generally, trains for northeast China (Shenyang, Dalian, Harbin) on the Beijing–Harbin railway, for Shandong (Jinan, Qingdao) and the Yangtze River Delta (Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou) on the Beijing–Shanghai railway and some for Inner and the Republic of Mongolia depart from this station. Some international lines (notably the railway line linking Beijing to Moscow and to Pyongyang, North Korea (DPRK), amongst others), also depart from this station.

@ Beijing West Railway Station

Opened in 1996, Beijing West Railway Station was the largest railway station in Asia. The station serves in average 150,000-180,000 passengers per day with a maximum of 400,000 people per day. Beijing West is a terminal of both "traditional" and high-speed trains. It is the Beijing terminal Beijing terminal for most trains leaving the city for destinations in western and southwestern China, including Xi'an, Chongqing, Chengdu, Lhasa and Urumqi. Major "traditional" rail lines beginning at this station include the Beijing-Guangzhou railway (via Wuhan) and the Beijing–Kowloon railway (via Nanchang and Shenzhen).

@ Beijing East Railway Station

Built on 1938, Beijing East Railway Station was one of the major freight train stations in Beijing. From 2015, the station was renovated to handle some commuter trains connecting eastern suburban area with the downtown Beijing.

Tips:
1. Assign trains to the right platform is the key to avoid chaos.
2. Don't be scared by strong waves of departing trains. Tracks near depots might help to re-organize trains when
needed. Those "crowds" on the track are also real in the busy Beijing West Station and Beijing Station everyday.
3. As the major railway stations covered in this map are serving as terminals for many of the most major railways in China, there will be strong demand to reverse the trains for traffic to the depot. Don't forget it and check the timetable to help.
